How about some random values?

Post by Texican »

There are generals we know very well (i.e., Lee, Jackson, Grant, etc...) and generals who never came to the forefront or who never were written about explicitly.

However... we all know there are unsung heroes in any war. I wonder if it would be a neat idea (although the game is done now) to have fixed values for the famous generals or their most identifiable stats, and random values for the "unknowns". "Unknowns" would be generals who were not famous or maybe some untested stats of famous generals (i.e., who the heck knows how good non-cavalry officers like Lee and Grant would have been with cavalry?).

Each game, these random variables could be generated and hidden until a general was tested in battle.

Thoughts?

I was told there was a button you could press that would make all generals random in a game. So Lee could in 1 game be horrible and in another great or just average.

Is this so?

Yes.  There's also an option for making some statistics hidden; hidden statistics have a chance to be revealed each time a general participates in battle.

Could someone clarify hidden statistics? Is this an option for historical generals, where some of Lee's (or General Nobody's) stats are present but others are only revealed in battle. Or is it an option for random stats, where you will know some of the mystery general's stats but will have to wait for others to be revealed? Or does it work for both?

If your generals have historical/non-randomized but hidden stats that means that for the famous guys, at least, you'll have a pretty good idea of what their hidden ratings are, though in the case of the 9-percenters it'll be just as if they were randomized, since you'll probably have no clue who they were.

By the way, it's best to ask questions about generals in the main forum -- I rarely check in the ratings sub-forum these days (and doubt that most others do), so it's possible for a question to be missed.

Thanks, Gil, both for the answer and for the guidance.
