Subscript out of Range Error = Ver 1.3.120

Post by Jeffcee52 »

[&:] I am running Maximum-Football Ver. 1.3.120, I also had this problem when running Ver. 1.0.139. When I try to run the software, it goes thru the opening screens up until I either select Quick Game or League Play. When I select my options, and then select Play - I get the error "Subscript out of range in procedure ModGame.ScreenGameSetup-Press F9 to continue" When I press F9, it cannot continue and I press esc. to get out of it. I ran DXdiag and it came up with no problems found! Can you please help me to fix this? I am a noobie and I would appreciate any help out there!!!

Hi.

This happens if you have a USB game controller (or similar device) plugged in to your computer that that game doesn't understand.

Can you give me a list of USB (or other devices) that are connected to your machine?

I'm working on a 'generic' non-understood device check for that portion of the game.

Thanks
David

Hi.. Please see my comments below in BOLD. The CH flight controllers are probably the culprit here. Please try unplugging those and let me know what happens. Thanks.

I have connected the following:
      1) CH Flightstick [please unplug and retry]
      2) CH Throttle  [please unplug and retry]
      3) CH Rudder [please unplug and retry]
      4) CH Yoke [please unplug and retry]
      5) CH Gamepad
      6) RealFlight Interlink Controller [I have the same device attached. This should not cause a problem (love flying the G3 Blimp [:)] )]
      7) RealRace Controller [please unplug and retry]
      8) HP USB Printers - OfficeJet 7410, Photosmart 7550
      9) Iomega External CD/RW USB
      10) Microsoft Digital Pro Keyboard USB
      11) Kensington Optical Rollerball Mouse [Kensington products should all work (having previously worked for Kensington for years, those devices were heavily tested [:)] ) I love my ExpertMouse trackball]

I am using a Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT display adapter and a Nvidia GeForce 4 AMD motherboard (ASUS A8N5X)  [I don't think these should cause any problems]

[;)] David,
I followed your directions and disconnected all of my CH Products. The game ran fine!! Will there be changes to allow the CH Products in the next release? I have no problem with the CH Products in Panzer Command: OWS or PureSim Baseball 2007. Even with StarShatter TGS the CH Products seem to work OK!

The problem I have with StarShatter TGS, is that I cannot get the 5.0.1 Update to work!!! I download it to my StarShatter Folder and then run it. It unzips the filles and places them in the folder, but when I go back to the Icon on my desktop to start the program it still loads as 5.0.0 Am I doing something wrong? I have tried to load it several ways and sometimes I get an error that says "The original program was loaded incorrectly or you have an invalid key"
I know your time is valuable, but if you could give me some direction on this I would be your slave forever! (Ha-Hah!!!)   Thanks

Jeffcee52,

How do you have the CH products connected to the USB on the computer?

I am not a pro like David, but if you are having a problem with the USB flight controllers and games, could you plug them into a USB hub breakout box and just disconnect the single USB port when they are not in use?  I would think that one USB2.0 motherboard port should be able to handle them without a problem.

Marauders,

Thank you for your reply, I have the USB connections as you described. I guess this is the best that I can do until a patch is made to allow for them. Any ideas on the StarShatter problem?

I'm not sure, but do those games need to use game controllers? I thought they were all basic mouse and/or keyboard support. Because Maximum-Football supports game pads, joysticks, and other game devices, it needs to talk to all the input devices plugged into the computer to find out each works with the game. What's happening is that it's finding ones it can't get valid information from ('not valid' being it's being told things it's not expecting) and that's causing problems.

As for adding CH Products, I don't have any to test with. I'd need to know their HID descriptors to know how they're reporting themselves to the game.

As for StarShatter, you'd really need to contact the developers of that one. I'm afraid I don't know very much about it.

Hi again.

I believe I found out what was causing this problem. After adding further error handling to catch unrecognized devices, I think the cause in this particular case was the shear number of devices attached. The CH devices were being recognized as usuable devices and the game was trying to make them available for use. The game simply ran out of slots to assign controllers to.

So I've added some error handling to ensure that only 2 game devices will be used (in addition to the mouse and keyboard slots making 4 devices in total). If you have more than 2 game devices, it will add the two connected to the root port before adding others. If all devices are added to external USB hubs it will add the first 2 game devices it finds.

In the future, I'll try to add more slots so people can use more controller types.

David,

Sorry I took so long to respond to you. Christmas shopping and such!!!  The changes you made are available now? Or will they be in another patch? Thanks for continuing to work with this problem!
