You do have a point, although some companies try to clarify "Support Forum" as "User Support Forum". For instance, Atari's forums are all handled this way. If you have a serious issue with a game, you create a support ticket and don't touch the forums. If it's just a problem with hardware or something, you ask on a forum instead because there's a better chance of some random joe having had the same problem and fixed it himself.

Since you're asking so nice, sure each issue will be addressed in time. The only support in this forum is to get the game to run on your system. Everything else is a bonus.

Ah, well, now I see why command doesn't care who I shoot down in the heat of combat. It seems people who should be on the same side are at one another's throats.

We're all trying to have fun here. I'm not a moderator or anything, but maybe we're all taking this a little too personally?

I posted my question thinking that the developers were interested in devloping the game. I mean, I bought both 4.0 and 5.0. I didn't even know that 5.0 was just going to be 4.0 again with new graphics. I thought it was going to be a new campaign or something. Maybe I should have read the fine print. In any case, I didn't complain just to make everyone suffer. I asked if anyone could improve the game and make it worth playing for me, because as it is, it's not. Eye candy is great, but if you can't land and you can't find your enemies (but you could in 4.0) then I'll just stick with 4.0. Fine. I'm not complaining. I'm just...disappointed.

Most software companies produce patches and updates over time. I figured that they listened to users who offered up their concerns and they wanted to make the game more enjoyable for them.

Perhaps this whole forum should bear a large red label to warn away people who might actually want to suggest some game improvements:

WARNING: THIS FORUM IS FOR INSTALLATION AND EXECUTION ISSUES ONLY. IF IT IS INSTALLED AND IT RUNS, DON'T POST HERE.

With that kind of warning, I'm sure you'll be able to nip the problem of people offering suggestions in the bud.

Nothing ventured, nothing lost.

What's with the sarcasm? It's not welcome or necessary. All we're doing is trying to improve something we like. In general, the more I like a game, the more suggestions I have to improve it (which is why, for instance, I give hours upon hours of my life theorising improvements for the game The UnReal World).

Milo doesn't need to implement anything we suggest, for sure, but this isn't so much about the fact that we want something new as it is that we want something old that seemed to have been inexplicably lost.

[edit]After reading your post again, I'm not sure if you really did intend sarcasm, now that I'm looking at it. But "since you're asking so nice" seems to imply the opposite. =)

Boyd. you repeatedly miss the point. This is the StarShatter Support forum, not the Modders forum. You repeatedly blag your modding skills and hey why not, however blag it in the right forum

However the point is that this game in its released and patched state has many obvious bugs e.g. how to land a fighter in the flight deck without it crashing

Your repeated response is unfortunately to claim people raising these bugs are whiners which they are clearly not. People do have a right to request the developer respond to their issues and this is the right place. Doing it via e-mail completely negates the idea of a forum. Perhaps even raising the issues might result in a statement from a gamer has managed to overcome it via a mod. This is the right forum to raise an issue and also share a potential answer. Maybe you should just not bother replying and allow someone more helpful to make comment instead of giving a sulky protective remark each time

Everyone one of you replies simply confirms what a selfish individual you are and turns the original post into a plug about your modding ability.

Your holier than thou attitude, "I've been playing it longest" type of quotes are what is laughable...its so funny you just can't see it. What is even funnier is you insistence of being here so long doesn't appear to even reflect your post count. Well, you've given me a laugh [:D]

Well maybe I don't understand you guys because I never played the game! I played a couple of training missions and got right to modding. I don't care about those problems because most will be fixed in the mod.

I think that was the intention all along. To make a very moddable flight sim and the campaigns and stuff are more examples than anything.

What we really need: forum administrator. Why? Because, then we'd have people to stop this petty bickering.

So I think I'll say it. Please, stop. This is turning into a nasty, pointless flaming war.

Yes, we don't have the developer support we want. Complaining about it here and pointing fingers won't do anything.

Now the worst thing is that if anyone looking at the game reads this, they might not buy it on grounds that there isn't a friendly, understanding community who can remember that this is just a game.

Bryax,

Agreed 100% - If people detail they have issues / problems don't flame them. Its best folk here either offer something to help or say nothing at all

Tank Commander:

A) Please reply to the proper post; you replied to mine, which confused me because I missed the word "boyd" on my first read through and wondered why the heck you were calling me "holier than thou" or saying I've been playing longer than anyone. I'm trying to take a neutral stance (though I support this request fully and defended it when I felt as though someone was trying to reject it with only tacit reasons), and am definitely a newbie. ;-)

B) Stop getting cheesed at wdboyd. Everyone already has their opinions of everyone else, so there's no need to keep getting after them. wdboyd has a condescending attitude, in my opinion, but towards the end here you're the one being the most vehement. =P

Dear JT,

I didn't reply to your post, I addressed mine to Boyd. I can only suggest you take care when reading a post in furture

I don't wish to be vehement, perhaps I'll apply a more subtle approach in future. I'm, perhaps poorly, attempting to show Boyd that by berrating nearly every person who has an issue or seeks help on this forum that he is reducing the number of people who will use or buy this software. He does Matrix games and this item of software no favours whom in turn do themselves no favours with their, shall we say, limited support of the product.

I understand what you are attempting to do here and commend it. However please also avoid adopting Boyds condescending attitude

Your Sincerely,

Tank Commander (Currently on R & R)

Each of these posts actually has a thread structure (you'll see in the bottom right corner that it mentions who you replied to). If you click the little plus symbols next to the topics, you'll see the thread structure. With that post above, I replied to your post, which was in response to mine. =)

In completely flat forums, like PHPBB, that sort of thing doesn't come up because there are no threads, but in threaded forums with flat displays that I'm used to, it's no end of confusing when the occasional reply-to-wrong-post is made. When a post says "(in reply to JT)" but addresses wdboyd, I think it's only fair I can be a little confused by it. ;-)

ok i kno this is kinda late but Nigel, the prob ur havin with landin is actually the game itself, not you because i have had the same prob several times. The only way to fix is to either "end mission and accept results" or to set a nav point near the carrier and give the "mission" for the nav point RTB, then use auto to skip the whole process
