Shouldn't you be telling this to the people at The Collective (aka Ubi)?

I was looking for Large Slow Targets postings when I found this mention of SH4 so I commented.

I already did. Not much else to do [>:] since I can't do anything but execute a PC freeze.

My e-troops don't unload OVER THE BEACH anymore, see:

TF 85 troops securing a beachhead at Kota Bharu, 51,75
whew! I still feel better.

Well??? Anyone having fun with Silent Hunter 4??? Mine will usually run through the opening videos OK then when I choose to do anything it always freezes forcing a reboot.

Well, that's because I'm having so much with Silent Hunter 4 I rarely visit the forum anymore [:D].

Ok, bloody lie - it does not run on my PC at home and on the decent machine at work I only get short glimpses at it during lunch break. But from what I have seen so far - graphics are exellent [:)], the bugs as well [:(], and historical accuracy leaves much to be desired. On my first patrol out of Manila in a S-class sub in Dec. 41 I sank an Agano class CL and encountered three Mogami class vessels - all in the post-Midway-hybrid-cruiser/carrier version...

Got it and it sucks, the 1st patch fixed some issues and created many others. I'll be leaving it alone for atleast the next two patches. Runs ok my machines but its just not playable.

Aircraft are just silly, if you have any time compression on you just can’t drive quickly enough, got attacked by a zero fighter in the middle of the ocean he dropped two bombs both went long and exploded about 50 yards from my boat heading away from me yet I got hull breaches and all of my deck crew injured (all three watches???????) and massive flooding damage. There are just to many planes in the game now before I didn’t see one now I can barely stay surfaced anywhere near nip territory.

Going back to playing witp and SH3.

Just my 2 pence worth.
I might not be right.
Hell I am probaby wrong.
But thats my opinion for what its worth!

It's basically the same thing with SHIII. You compress your voyage and in my case I get rammed by ships. They need to freeze the game at the point where something was spotted and not letting another 500 seconds run off till the compression ratio completes if the ratio were 1000X for example. I played way too much of 1X or 5-10X to realize it would be forever till something was spotted or heard.

I bought SH4, then realized my video card wasn't supported, even though it is probably the most common card sold.

I am going to have to upgrade my card, but it doesn't sound like I want to spend the money just for this game alone.

You want to go over subsim.com to the modders forum, grab the 'flavor to taste' mod by Ducimus, read through it and remove any of the mods you don't want... specifically good bits include reducing the number of aircraft, although they still tend to turn up hourly having mysteriously flown 700 miles direct to you from base.

Most of the bugs have work rounds, I've spent over a week (good job I'm on holiday atm) sorting this out to a playable state. Note that the bugs aren't fixed - just that you can load a mod or change the way you do something to avoid the problem for most of them.

Tell you what though, it makes you really appreciate WITP....
