RE: Soviet turn 46
Meanwhile the Soviets got a lucky break near Leningrad and are counterattacking in force.

I read somewhere that humans eat more bananas than monkeys and I believe it's true because I don't remember the last time I ate a monkey.

While you guys are debating the north of Leningrad area I'd just like to point out that the Axis forces are attacking Stalingrad from the EAST. It's almost all over for the Soviets.
doesn't matter which side he attacks from - it's still Stalingrad!!

I imagine his supply to the east must be fairly diabolical, and that cavalry division SE of the penetration looks adequate to hammer the recce elements!

Agree, go Larry, go! For the sake of the Rodina!
Regarding the Wolga Crossings - is this realistic? Most of you sure know how the Wolga looks like in that area, i don't think it can be crossed via pontoon bridges (or with the means of a single Panzer-Pionier Bn.), any thoughts on what might be possible?

Perhaps that river should be represented by Shallow Water hexes?ORIGINAL: Telumar

To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

RE: Soviet turn 46
Stalingrads loss is not the end, as the war advances, the Germans get less and less, the troops drain away and the reds get some great winter bonuses!.. I expect you to see a huge winter 43 attack as my oponent kicked me to hell and back, in my German campaign, see aar. So take heart Larry, the end is not yet in sight!

RE: Soviet turn 46
River crossings are not a strong point in ToaW - bridging units should construct bridges or ferries that are attackable by air or artillery - bridges shuold be destroyable, ferry capacity reducable (probably represented by increased costs to cross currently) - ideally there should be dynamic hex capacity and bridges should create major bottlenecks - especially the improvised/temporary ones made by divisional bridging units.......
That said the Volga is a super-river, with no "permanent" bridges, and flanked by crappy marsh terrain - it's frozen in the scenario by the look of it, which makes it easier for the German - I'm not sure when the thaw arrives but when it does it'll be nightmare for the German to maintain supply over if he hasn't captured Stalingrad already.

RE: Soviet turn 46
There are a lot of things in TOAW that don't work like they should work.
I am currently 1 or 2 hexes away from 6 production hexes. Stalingrad(10%), Sevastopol(10%), Bryansk(5%), Orel(5%), Rostov(5%) and Krasnodar(5%)...Do I have the forces to take all of those? I think so, it just requires some sacrifices...which I am willing to make. I mean it's definetly worth it. Currently Larry has 661 rifle squad coming in each turn. If I capture all of those it will be about 440 a turn...triple that for the Winter gear up and you get about 1300 a turn(instead of about 2000). Not enough to fight an attritional battle. I hope.
Maykop(-5 supplies to russians +5 to me) is also close as is Cherkovskassy or something that will bring the Turks in on my side...which could mean the capture of the whole Caucasus area.

RE: Soviet turn 47
Stalingrad is in real trouble. That line of Soviet stuff to the West of Stalingrad could easily be cut off and killed while the Axis dude ( Karri ) is capturing the city itself. And when the gearup in replacements does occur ( what in Dec. '41 or Jan. '42 ??) if it does result in a replacement rate of 1300 squads per turn ......well, that's just about enough to start a winter offensive somewhere.

RE: Soviet turn 47
Well, it would still give you about a 3 to 1 superiority in squad replacements.

Hey now, there was a minor breakthrough in the German lines south of Moscow. It's nothing the German dude can't fix though. Too bad the Soviets don't have the units available to follow up on this little item.

RE: Soviet turn 48
Looks like I've soon destroyed the Red Army twice over. It canno't possibly have any fighting power left
I've lost about 32 000 HRS.

I've lost about 32 000 HRS.
RE: Soviet turn 48
why did the rifle squads just triple their replacement rate? Good news for the Soviets, although your ability to burn through 4000+ squads in a turn must be disturbing to the troops on the front lines!
BTW -- what is the current date in the scenario?

RE: Soviet turn 48
The production goes up ~300% on turn 48 to simulate Soviets finishing moving factories.
Turns 42 to 49:

The Soviets have now been cut off from the caucasus. The only way Larry can move troops there is via the ports.

Turn 49 will be 7Dec41. As a last gasp measure, I destroyed all the bridges from Stalingrad to the east.....hoping that will stall the Germans for a couple of turns maybe.
