Custom Scenarios

Post by Gunner98 »

Has anyone been successful in designing a custom scenario yet? I have done a bit of design work in the past but must admit the editor in CaW is beyond me at this point. [&:] It seems that unless you are modifying an standard scenario you have to build everything from scratch, are there ‘pick-lists’ available?[>:]

Call me a psycho but I think it would be great to take tactical situation arising in WiTP and quickly turn them into tactical scenarios in CaW to play out in more detail. I think that would be more do-able than a campaign game at this scale.

Hi,
Haven't done one from scratch yet, that takes a while. I start off usually by editing the existing elements, beefing them up a bit. I've been at the Coral sea game for the past week and replaced the older fighters with Corsairs and Sea Mosquitos for a laugh and made the squadrons much more experienced. Then I tried adding a new Task Group with it's own carrier but I'm getting crashes and don't know why yet, it's either a bug or something I'm doing wrong invalidating the game logic. The original game has an appendix with the stats on lots of different units you could add in with the editor. I'm stored them somewhere but it makes it quicker than converting real world stats of planes and ships into the stats CAW uses. I'm hoping they'll publish these to make editing a bit quicker.

Start off small is my advice, the editor isn't half bad when you get used to it.

Cheers

Hi

I've been playing round with the editor a fair bit and I'm about half way through building a custom scenario using the existing resources in the game (i.e. I'm not making any new plane/ship graphics). Its set in late 1942 and assumes that having taken Midway the IJN has decided to raid the US to Australia/NZ sea lanes (like the foray into the Indian Ocean in April 1942). The editor is fine once you get used to it but has a steep learning curve to start with.

Mike_Ireland - I think you will find that your modified game crashes because any new TF/ship/plane will need to have all the correct resources in place in terms of graphics (sprites/animations etc) and also have suitable warcards made up as well for the AI.

I think I recall see a post a while ago from one of the guys from SSG saying that they have deliberately programmed the game to crash back to Windows if an error occured, at least during the testing phase. I have seen the "report this bug to SSG?" window pop up a few times lately using the editor shall we say [:)]

Purhaps Gregor could comment on that aspect? [&o]

Cheers

Well the Editor worked well enough for us to make all the scenarios in the game, but obviously that was an inside job. If you send your bug reports to Alex I'm sure that we can sort out any issues.

Thanks
