I don`t know what anyone else thinks but the Peloponnesian War war would be very good. As far as I know it's never been done on PC so it would keep with the Hussar thing of covering unpopular conflicts.
Civil War, been done...over and over.
Fredrick, been done...but this is a nice idea too.
Napoleon, been done...doesn´t excite me.
Carthage and Rome...this seems like a good one too.
Peloponnesian War is my favorite idea....how would it sell? That I have no idea. I`d certainly buy it. It would be the only one on the market.

Ike,
Peloponesian Wars are nice idea - they can put Tukidid's "Peloponesian Wars" book as supplement [8D]
Hmmm... todays designers are without imagination, you have a point there. But they must also look what will sell. Sid Meier is not doing Civilization Revolution for Wii because he think it will not sell, quite contrary.
I would not undervalue Napoleonics as a theme for covering in PC games. That topic CAN sell. You have many Napoleonics games now in the development and ALL can sell well. It's just a matter HOW well game is made. You have Histwars: Les Grognards, then EU3 expansion Napoleon Ambitions, then AGEOD developers are making game on Napoleon and there are certanly some others...
I posted links to old Koei games because they were really great. That greatness spans even today in PS2 Koei games ROTK X and ROTK XI for example. They had great tactical battles and system of recruitment.
Alexander The Great is also idea that was not used on right way... his campaign had also logistical part, then helenisation of lands etc... could make interesting strategic game as well of course with battles.
You are right Carthage, Roman period could be used up more, not just in Total War games hehe. There were many games before on C-64 and Amiga in that period. Nice strategic game again with tactical battles modules. Of course TBS with battles again TBS hehe. Or RTS but not like Total War or copy of that like Slitherine is doing.
RE: New game?
Hi Monkeys Brain.
On the Pelopenssian War.
Yeah that`s the thing...would it sell?
Maybe. It`s never been done well...I don`t think it`s been done at ALL. [:D]
It would have lot`s of exciting events to it for sure and strategy.
Hmmm...would it sell?
Well I remember not too long ago if a game didn´t have N.A.T.O., Nuke or Nazis in it it was considered risky. A game on the Pacific War was considered commercial SUICIDE. Now look, the Pacific War dominates the forums here. So who knows.
If Hussar hasn`t decided yet on a game maybe they have some marketing person look and see if there would be an interest.

Ike,
Yeah, that's a right question! Now personally I think if something is good it will sell no matter where be it on gas stations or online or retail chain etc... and someone says that advertising is only for products that don't sell dunno... hehe.
Quite contrary to many I think that historical titles be it books or wargames have those cycles that sparsk interest. They are interconnected. Sometimes good book or movie will revive interest in some period of history. There is also a anniversaries (sp?) so you will soon see a BUNCH of WW1 books, games etc... as we near 100 ann. since WW1 started. 2014. [:D]
Napoleon also is interesting as there is 200 years since famous battles [:D]
There is of course also cultural differences and tastes.
I really don't know how much American public is aware of Antical Greek period of history but in this global world I am not sure about European public as well.
Again we are getting to the quality of game. Total War games sells in million and cover different part of history but they still didn't touched Napoleonics, WW1 except in some mods.
There is also an issue of historical approach to the subject. I think that history is more like Sherlock Holmes thing, investigation and many so called historian are very conservative and limited in their historical research. If game developers hook up with some bright historian we can see impove in the quality of wargames as well. I don't mean that history has to be distorted but there are many interesting things that are uncovered or just skipped over. Well, we cannot made up history but we can make presentation of old history - modern and fresh and then it can sell even at gas stations.
As ancient Greek history as well bears so great connections with modern history that is certanly period that cannot be boring. I am not just talking about history that repeat itself but about history that have signs that warn humanity of paths that have been already crossed. In many instances in todays world we have examples how in fact mediocrity, greed and really unintellectual approach rule - Anciant Greeks would really mock or ridicule those as they lived in golden times of great philosophers etc...
Sorry if I am vague or not prophetic but I cannot know will it sell in todays world of consumerism, cheap taste, MTV so called musical "hits", and fast entertainment. Maybe it is just meant to be on the margine. It is not mass culture thing like Harry Potter good Lord. Now that is sickening, that Harry Potter. That is sick.
The world has gone to sleep, they need Harry Potter to forget misery. I don't mind fantasy a la Raymond E. Feist and I met the guy in USA but this has gone over the top with Happy Potter. Sick. That is the right word.

RE: New game?
Well regardless of the theme choosen for the game I do hope they keep the same engine.
I for one, being more of a traditionalist [:)], like the 2D maps and units.
I also like the hex and counter style of movement.
Birth of America has a very table top looking map with it being broken up into territories so that kinda made me shy away from buying it.
So I hope they keep the hex movement and do not go 3D.

RE: New game?
My understanding from another thread was that Napoleon's Italian campaign would be the next game.
Personally I'd have preferred a slightly obscurer conflict (or the Peninsula War if we had to go Napoleonic) but if it is the Ogre in Italy it'll do...

The engine is good. But the reason why I have posted info on Koei game is because their tactical battle system is superb and also recruting, supply system as well.
Koei abandoned PC market and only releasing PC games in Chinese or Japanese yuck.
So that's basically what I would like - PC game with Koei system it is better than what Hussar and yuck Crown of Glory offered of FoF...but those guys tried to put some kind of tactical system (didn't tried FoF to know is it improved). So good tactical battles is my dream. Koei style of course.

Ike,
unfortunately no [8|]
It's also a pity that I didn't played these games as well:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/celtic-ta ... e-evil-eye
http://www.mobygames.com/game/operation ... ry-1939-45
but many other Koei games I have played on Amiga and PS2, just didn't playe their early PC games.
I actually play their games on PS2 now. They are truly great. [:)]

I haven´t played Forge of Freedom so I can`t speak to how its tactical battle system works. From looking at its screen shots it looks similiar to ¨Liberty¨ in the way it works though.
The original ¨modern¨ game that uses this style I think is probably ¨Dragoon¨ but it doesn´t have the strategic aspects to it.
I took a look at some KOEI screenshots and it looked like they did their tactical battles in 3D.
For some reason I don´t like 3D in strategy games. I noticed this when I bought ¨Spartan¨
It has a 2D/3D option for its tactical battles. After playing with 3D a while I switched to 2D.
At first in 3D it was like, ¨ahh...that looks cool¨ but constantly moving the camera angle around all the time to see what was going on just got annoying, after a few battles I went to 2D. I could see the entire battlefield, know what was going on and didn´t have to be moving the camera around all the time.
The 2D sprite animations in that game are probably the best I have ever seen in a game though. Very fluid animations. Actually the entire artwork in that game looks excellent. I think that game won some kind of award for its ¨look¨ actually.

Well, I didn't played much For Liberty, I played 1848 much more...
I like this system in tactical battles:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/lempe ... Id,206386/
this is from L'empereur game from Koei:
Shot is low quality but on Amiga graphic was better.
So, computer calculates position of your forces on the map like in Total War games so battles takes some geo position so you have rivers etc to use as your advantage (bridges...).
Arty is positioned behind. All units have some points to spend so they attack enemy till it routs etc... the system was refined in rotk series because there you have special attacks etc...
