Regular Infantry/Militia

Does this game distinguish between regular infantry and militia? From what I can see it doesn't, hopefully I'm just missing something. The difference between militia and regular infantry was huge in the Civil War.

I guess you could assume mustered units opposed to producing a unit is militia and regular infantry, mustering has less quality than a produced unit.

All units start with an experiance level. I'll keep it simple. Mustered units come in at say 1.80 and from there gain experiance through battle or being placed with a good general such as Grant. From there, they can learn special abilities such as Fast, Hardy etc. Regular units start at around 4.20 and can also go up. Remember this is just a fast explanation, I could get into more detail about how training camps help but I'll leave that for later. Hope this helps.

We don't have a concrete distinction in the game because that would involve too much micromanaging for the majority of our customers. But as was noted, there's a definite distinction in quality between units mustered in a short time and those that endure several turns' worth of training, and that simulates the difference to some extent. Over time those low-quality troops gain experience and become quite good, which could simulate their reenlisting as regulars.

Also, there are "garrison" units in cities and starter forts, many of which would be militia types.

Actually, almost all of the units (Infantry, Cavalry or Artillery) were militia units in the Civil War. As I vaguely recall at the outbreak of the war there were only about 3 brigades of infantry in the regular U.S. Army. All the other units were raised by the states themselves and were thus militia units.

I was being a bit loose with my terms. I assumed that the question was about 90-day militias versus long-term enlistments (which I referred to as "regulars").

I should add that one of our "Legendary Units" is Sykes' Regulars, which comes in as a more seasoned, reliable unit.

I was kinda referring to the AACW model where you can build Regular/Irregular Infantry, and Militia. Just wanted to know if FOF had something similar I was missing.

No, not specifically like AACW but similar.  The distinction is blurry.  In AACW your militia become regulars after some training and/or battles.  It's really the same mechanic here reflected through their quality metric.  You can actually tell roughly what quality a unit is too if you look at the individual brigade on the strategic map or detailed battle.  The militia quality union have light blue shirts as opposed to dark blue for regulars.  And for CSA umm, my memory is fuzzy but I think it's light brown as opposed to white shirts.  I might have that backwards though.
