How about a campaign element

Post by tomcat666 »

I have Grisby’s old carrier game: "Carrier Strike", which implemented a campaign element to the game.

I wonder if this approach could be applied in this game, or it not possible.

Perhaps in some future patch.

I don't think that there are (m)any developers who'd consider adding such a feature with a patch, these days. The common procedure would be to implement this in an add-on or in a sequel, nowadays.

Matrix is supposedly working on Carrier Force, which has a tactical carrier game element superimposed on the older UV engine.

UV is turn-based, not real time, but it does have much longer scenarios; campaigns only in the sense of different start and finish dates, but that's not written in stone.

Sometimes some info is available on the UV forum, but though it's in development, CF's not listed under that Matrix forum.

A campaign game of carrier warfare, although it could use many elements of Carriers of War, would really have to be a new game, since there would be a huge amount of work involved in its creation.

I think even some linked scenarios similar to what has been done with Steel Panthers would be enough.  Just something that would carry the consequences of one battle over to another would be enough to change player tactics quite a bit I would think.  Losing a carrier in a scenario sucks, but losing it for the next 3 scenarios..that a whole different level of pain.
