I'd buy with only the Grand Campaign, be happy to wait for other scenarios to come out in future releases,

Grand campaign and good AI will be more than great.
If more campaigns are needed, they could be added later (GC will be inaf to me [:)])

Long time lurker since 2004.  Played EiA the board-game.

I am for releasing it with just the Major Scenario.  I assume we'd get the ability to play all countries and a functioning PBEM with AI opponents.  Plus the AI, as I had seen discussed in varying threads, is scripted to be varying.
I disagree with eg0master about the substituting AI not being needed.  The max I expect is 2 humans plus 5 AI opponents.

Release with one scenario.

Follow up with a Scenario editor and trust to the mod community to expand upon the basic game.

Hi Guys

I am due to talk with Marshall and I will get the full proper scoop for everyone.  Don't worry just as of yet.

Leave senarios for later

I am with eg0master about the AI. But we could improve or just use the old uncontrolled major power (UMP) rules to play with just 2 0r 3 players. Monte Bohna offers some improvements to the UMP rules in the  'Empires in Arms' Yahoo groups website under the files section - MLB rules.

I understand that for some this sounds like a terrible idea. I appreciate that this may be true but then

1) all the 'programmers' out there could check on stuff like game balance, senario's and graphics (ie make mods)

whilst

2) the core team could focus on the AI.

We would still need a viable senario editor for this to work.

The big problem is the " deeply nested rules issues". These have been the bug bear of even the paper game and I have long suspected that might be the nemisis of this one.

Perhaps some compromise where the testing team is expanded might be in order. We would all promise to buy the game later. Honest.[:D]

If it's a matter of more playtesters, I know more than a few people (including me) willing to volunteer their time.

At this point I think the game has come to far to be canceled, but then I ain't the guy writing the checks....

YMMV,

without 1) ANY scenarios (allowing for post-release scenario distribution) or; 2) MANY scenarios (but still delaying game release to build them)?

1): without any scenarios

It is a bit odd that after more than four years since this game was announced, only one scenario has been developed.

My suggestion is to either release the game with only one scenario or else cancel the stupid thing and move on.

It's senseless to keep this thing going, year after year.  This is not the Vietnam or Iraqi war.

I doubt whether your attitude to the "niche game at best" in another forum will do you any favours actually. LOL

Did you have a chance to speak with him David?

The latest comments on status seem quite different then Marshall's comments in August. An update would eb appreciated.

Given that the game is >4 years late and suffering from a shortage of testers, I should think any sane development group wouldn't be fussy about some forum comments provided the person can test.

Then again.....

Well, the truth hurts sometimes.

Lets be honest, this isn't Halo 3 we're waiting on. And judging from the commercial success of other Napoleonic Era computer games, EiA would have to be several things it apparently isn't to appeal to those players who weren't going to buy it in the first place.

EiA is going to appeal to a specific group of players, and it's impact/influence beyond that core group is going to be minimal at best.

If thats not niche...

Heck, I originally volunteered when they first asked for playtesters some five plus years ago. Back then I was told they had more than enough people and a waiting list.

How times have changed...

as waiting for so long - the game should be released asap. Scenarios can be added later so that this community at least can start playing.
Please give it to me now!!

I find this all a little nuts.  They are giving us monthly updates and have no obligation to any of us to make this game.  If they release the game now and it does not work as designed, people will flip out.  It is obvious that Matrix is not going to allocate more resources to this so all of you with your immediate demands can keep on dreaming.  I look forward to this game and can manage to keep myself busy for another 6 to 24 months!

Now now. Let's not pick on people due to post counts. The last thing we need to do is suggest quantity matters over quality. And, he has every right to have low expectations just as you have every right to have higher ones. Speaking of which, I am surprised we haven't heard back from David yet. I can only assume he is trying to figure out the real status so he can report back appropriately.
