Another bug

Post by CptWaspLuca »

Bandits are not moving correctly.
I have a MiG-21 (range 0) 1 area away from my Hornets.
It's bandits movement phase; it should move, as its range is 0.

(original rules: Bandit Movement
Bandits move after the player’s Hornets move. Each Bandit may
move one area but is not required to move. Bandits do not use
altitude. Use the following rules to determine if and where a
Bandit moves:
If there are one or more Hornets within the Bandit’s range, it does
not move.
If no Hornets are within the Bandit’s range, move the Bandit one
area closer to the closest Hornet. If more than one Hornet is the
closest, randomly determine which Hornet the Bandit moves
towards.)

It doesn't move at all.
It happened twice.
This bug and those related to the die roll makes the game unusable... please release a patch as soon as possible...

That's interesting. A case of a unit being unusable because of game mechanics...

Sorry I don't understand your point...
Game mechanics are bugged... the MiG-21 should move, in the movement phase.

I HAVE read the manual, so don't be patronizing. I just misread your quote.

Verified better: the problem is present with all the bandits.
This time I had a MiG-23, range 1, 2 areas away; in the bandits movement phase it just sit down.

But another incredible thing happened this time...

I had a MiG-21 1 area away from the hornets (they are east of the target, the bandit south of it), as in the first case; this time it moved, but IN ANOTHER AREA 1 AREA AWAY FORM MY HORNETS :)
It was in the south quadrant directly under the target; at the end of the movement phase it was in the NORTH quadrant.
It remembers me Star Trek :D

After some trials I begin to think that in this PC version bandits movement is completely random... this is rather strange... Derek please say something :)

Hmmm, I just played a couple of missions in Iraq, and MiG-21's moved fine...

I missed that euang! Thank you.
But I think that random movement between non adjacent areas should be forbidden!

This rule makes the game much easier for me, I must say I don't like it. I prefer the original movement rules...

With this new rule bandits more than 50% of times don't engage; so if they are out of range they pose no harm. Random movement is for them no way better than engaging: they risk to remain where they are (25%) or to go away (another 25%); if they are lucky enough they engage, as per original rules.

This is another thing that should be optional, and movement between non adjacent areas forbidden.

Yes, this was changed a bit too, to make movement more interesting. This way, you never know where a hornet will show up to, and you have to plan to possibly engage them the whole way through. It keeps away unpredictability. Sometimes they move randomly, sometimes they don't and sometimes they move towards the nearest hornets (per the rules).

The game was designed with degrees of realism, but it was also designed with variances and abstraction to promote fun and a smoother game experience. Even the board game had abstraction and wasn't 100% realistic, so it wasn't a huge departure.
