Leaving target area before turn 4

In Hornet Leader PC, you command a squadron of the U.S. Navy’s elite F/A-18 Hornet Strike Fighters! You select the pilots and arm the aircraft based on real-world mission briefings. Once you reach your objective, you evaluate threats, and do what needs to be done to destroy the target!

Leaving target area before turn 4

Is it possible to exit your hornets out of the target area before turn 4 ??? Or do I have to hang around and get shot at ???[:D]

Sure...you can move your hornets around as you see fit. But once you're in the mission itself, you cannot totally leave the mission itself until 4 turns have elapsed. You have two opportunities to Abort the mission before it starts.

I suppose its imitating the board game that way, but it does seems sort of silly that my squadron can swoop in, lay waste to their target by the end of round 2 and then have to loiter at the edge of the target zone as if gawking at their handiwork for two more turns. If through luck, planning, or talent my boys can perform a lightning strike, they should be able to hit and fade away. Granted, given one of those turns was used to egress to the outer zone again and it really WAS my fault for over estimating the amount of ATG ordnance needed (hence, I was low on ATA for suppression or destroying the bandits in the zone), but that last turn of just sitting there while every flying bad guy who felt like taking a pop shot did was nerve wracking.

Then again, the game is often generous by allowing us to always cleanly disengage after the fourth turn (short of getting jumped on the way home), so I guess abstracted game rules work both ways. [;)]

Yep it seems an oversight to me in the PC game, exiting is not possible, but logically and according to rules it should be.

While I agree it would be nice to have this option, I haven't had a problem in cases where I had an easy mission and finished quickly. Just head for a zone that's not within AAA threat range and cycle through a few more phases.

Erik,
When some Mig-29s are still roaming around it's not necessarily that easy [:-][:D]

The original rule works better and is more realistic, in my opinion: I hope a way to leave before turn 4 will be added in a patch. Players who want to remain in danger zone can always remain there :D

It will probably be added in as an option when all of your hornets are in pre-approach. At this point, the vote in the other thread seems too divided to add it at any other time. That way, if you start and your position looks really bad, you can Abort the mission. You still go through home-bound events and stress calculations as normal.

It would be nice to allow it to damaged aircrafts (in an external area, obviously) too, as in reality... a damaged aircraft is sent to base immediately in real world.

Still you have stress and events, as normally.

What do you think about this?

I agree with this one, as it is realistic. I would like the option to leave before turn 4 if I complete the objective, but so far I have been lucky in avoiding too much damage.
