Achievement Abbreviations

Post by Wrathchild »

Is there a list anywhere of all the abbreviations that can appear in a player's Career Stats? MVP is obviously Most Valuable Player and ROY is probably Rookie of the Year, but what are SS and AS, for example? And CY would be Best Pitcher? Any others?

SS - Silver Slugger
CY - Cy Young (best pitcher)
AS - All Star

SS/Silver Slugger is the same as Pure Slugger?
Is Cy Young given to a rookie? For my first completed season, the same pitcher has both Best Pitcher and Best Rookie Pitcher. I was wondering if the CY was the pitching equivalent of the ROY.

The Cy Young Award is named after the famous pitcher.... well, Cy Young. It goes to the Best Pitcher. I think there were licensing reasons why Shaun didn't call it the Cy Young Award in-game, but is able to use the letters CY to represent the award, since no one holds a copyright on a pair of letters.

Basically, the CY is the equivalent of the Best Pitcher Award. The ROY is the best "new" pitcher, effectively. They don't usually, or don't HAVE to go to the same person, but they certainly could. Congrats to whichever team retains that player's talents!

Just FYI, you can change what you call the "Best Pitcher Award" in the .XML file. For example, in my fictional association, I named it the VanSteen Award, for the first pitcher to ever win 20 games; in my case it was Joseph VanSteen.

I believe you can change the others, but I was really only looking for this one.

Speaking of which...

Shaun? Is there a way or a place in the .XML where we can change the CY initials? I'd like to change it (in my case) to VS.

Is there an abbreviation for the best rookie pitcher? The reason I asked was because in my initial season, Doc White has next to his 1900 initial season stats just 'CY', and I didn't know if this was referring to him winning the Best Rookie Pitcher or Best Pitcher award since he won both.

I call it the Rick Vaughn Award. [:D]

Under the hitting & batting stat. what does GIDP (ground in double play?), AS (attempts stealing?), PO (put outs?), DP(double play?), F, and PB stand for?

Thanks

Pitching
Hld - Holds
DP - Double Plays induced by your pitch
P/GS - Pitches/Game Started (on average)
BAA - Batters Average Against (what they're collectively hitting against you; also known as OBA for Opposing Batting Average)

Batting
GIDP - Yes, Ground into Double Plays
AS - Assists (in getting someone out)
PO - Putouts (outs you got yourself)
DP - Double Plays (how many you participated in)
F - There is no "F", did you mean "E"? If so that would be Errors.
PB - Passed Balls (only applies if you're a catcher)

This site has several abbreviations available and may help with future questions: Baseball Almanac.com
