"Learning to Be Patient" Using Real Players

Post by KG Erwin »

Everyone knows that using real players can be a huge bubble-buster. Expectations must be set aside, especially with early-entry turned on.

To be honest, I have to consciously fight the expectations. It isn't easy. This is perhaps why many gamers prefer using fictional players.

Either way, it is a challenge. I have a new association started, and my team is struggling. I'm posting this both as a self-reminder and a word to those who want to win NOW: I have a 3-year contract, and deliberately drafted for youth & potential.

I have a personal problem with being patient, so this team is part of a self-administered psychological restructuring program.

It might sound odd, but this one day at a time program, using PS as its basis, may be beneficial in several ways.

I don't believe any other gamer has taken this approach, so let's see how it turns out.

To Shaun: there's no danger of me "flipping out" over the game, but I'm kinda curious if a PC game can actually be a benefit to a person's psychological well-being. I'm half-serious about it, as I see some people blaming social ills on the gaming world.

Boy oh boy. Little did I know what I was getting into. After just 11 games, my 1940 Dodgers have had 5 extra inning games, and 6 games decided by 1-run margins.

I only have a 5-6 record, but 8 of my 25 major leaguers have potential ratings of 100. I'm already fighting the urge to dump some of the youngsters and trade for some "win now" veterans. I'm sure some of you can identify with this.

Patience. A dynasty isn't built overnight. Taking pro football's history as an example, Lombardi didn't take the Packers to an NFL title victory until his 3rd year.

I must also say that Frozen Stiffer has given me inspiration, too. I hope to provide an example of "how to build a championship team" within a 3-year time frame. I also hope to do this within the Dodger organization itself, rather than relying too heavily on trades. We shall see.
