Cursor Problems

Post by Buck Beach »

I don't see where anyone has addressed Dennis Sweets posts regarding the unstable cursor. Well I purchased the game day before yesterday and I too am having similar cursor problems. His post were dated November 18 & 19 going on a month and a half ago and he has even received a courtesy response.

I hope I do better than he.

Hi Buck Beach,

Im pretty sure i answered Dennis on our board (or via email). The answer was to download the beta v1.02 patch (or wait until 1.02 is released which should be shortly). Then you'll need to move the cursors.srf file out of the "Resources" folder, and the system should then default to using system cursors.

Thank you. I now have the beta 1.02 download and applied and I now will try your suggestions . Note, I did under 1.01 patch and it didn't work.

Applied the patch and cursor is better but not right.  On the tutorial screen it will show over the exit/back button and the Start Tutorial but not on the index unless I left click and drag it from the Start tutorial (and maybe from the back button.  It also dances on the other game screens and appears unstable.  I have a fairly current AGI video/graphics card and a current Logitec thumb marble mouse.

I current am not experiencing any problems on any other game, but, have seen cursor problems previously (Railroad Tycoon III comes to mind) but they had a cursor switch solution that had something to do with color cursors.

Hmm thats strange. Can you try going into windowed mode to see if the cursor proplem still exists? Also, can you create a DXDiag file and shoot it to me at alexs@ssg.com.au (the details on how to do this can be found Here).

For what its worth, I had reported I was not experiencing this issue with any other games currently, but, a check against Civ IV Beyond the Sword, does show the problem. This did not happen the last time I played it about a week ago.

BTW, I found out how to run CAW in a windows mode and the cursor stabilized, BUT, I now still have problems running CIV IV BTS. I tried it in its windows mode and the cursor quit dancing but moves very slow. I couldn't correct with control panel settings.

Edit. I just visited a SSG sister forum for the RFTS and find they have been wrestling with USB mouse/cursor problems for a couple of years now with no resolution. I sincerely hope this won't be the case here.
