Mgr/GM Tendencies

Is there any way to set the Mgr/Gm tendencies for computer controlled teams and have those settings stay in effect???

IMO, the inability to manage games in Multiplayer is the one thing that keeps this from being an almost perfect product. Maybe Shaun will consider this for PS 2009.

I would love to play my historical solo league with multiplayer on so I can have more control over all the teams but not being able to manage any games is a killer. If you cant manage both teams at least allow the option to select which team you wish to manage.

The only thing I could suspect is that in an MP game, you are the commissioner- an unbiased person who oversees the game and makes decisions on what is best for the game, not for one specific team. I suspect that if you're going to RUN the league, you shouldn't have a preference for one team over another.

This is only a guess; I'm not really particular about it one way or another as I don't normally play MP.

I would use MP simply as a tool to have more control over all the teams, AI GM's will not use deadball strategy and as I play mostly deadball historical period I find it necessary to have more control. Unless PS allows for the setting of AI GM tendencies or for MP with games able to be managed then I am stuck with either not playing games or AI teams that are not run effectively.

Since the day that MP became a reality, I have encouraged the use of it among anyone using real players (if you don't want to manage).

Setting up as MP, with all teams under human control, allows the user to go into every team and set the "real life" tendencies where you believe them to be. It does, of course, open up the possibility of rigging the assn to finish the way you want it.

I developed my own methods for stocking rosters, drafting, trading, salary arbitration, etc. I just ended up letting the AI actually play out all the games. I considered this a strict "Commissioner" mode. I've read others on this board and others refer to it as "God" mode. I would "follow" one of the teams and root for them, but decisions affecting the whole league and individual teams were totally impartial.

Only once did I step in and fool around with things (and it wasn't even on the team I was following). One of the teams had Vida Blue '71. He pitched into his 40's drug-free and was sitting at 399 wins. He was also sent down to the minors by the AI (using the Auto Adjust Rosters). Knowing it was probably Vida's last season before retirement, I brought him up and put him on the roster. I was hoping for a cheap relief win. I waited a week or so, then decided to force the issue by putting him into the rotation and giving him a start. He actually would have been the winning pitcher of record had I been able to pull him after 5 innings. It was not to be, however. He pitched further into the game, gave up some more runs, was removed, and ended up with the loss. I Auto Adjusted again and he went back to the minors. He retired at the end of the season with those 399 wins.

What the heck. I took a peek into the past and found his player card. I am attaching it and just noticed for the first time that Blue was a perfect 7-0 in postseason action. A true Hall-of-Famer! I scrolled down to where it shows his last few seasons AND his postseason record.
