The Value of Pitching in Long-Term Leagues

Post by KG Erwin »

Perhaps this isn't so true in fictional leagues, but I'm finding that in real-player leagues, good pitching is damned hard to trade for. In real-world baseball, it's generally true, but in PS, it's a fact.

In every RP league I've had, trading for a topnotch batting lineup is relatively easy. For new players, keep this in mind. Trading for a decent rotation, well, forget it.

For this reason, I believe it is vital that Shaun raise the limits for realplayer historical leagues to at least 45 players. To grow pitching on the farms, you need at least 10 pitchers in the minors, and get A-level prospects who are 17 or 18.

Honestly, I've never taken a league past two years, BUT, I really desire to go long-term, with real players, and the present 35-man rosters are insufficient. If early draft entry becomes a default necessity to reach 45, then so be it. I'd like to have that option in realplayer historical associations.

KG -

I am in my fourth season of my fictional players league. I am finding that finding/keeping/building a good pitching rotation is one of the hardest parts of the game. Every year that I have played so far it feels like in the off season I am trying to rebuild the back end of my rotation or rebuild my bullpen. Finding a quality 4th or 5th starter has been a problem for each of the seasons I've managed and I hold my breath sometimes when I need to bring in guys from the pen.

At least from my perspective of using fictional players - I agree that good pitching is hard to find.

Apart from pitching, I'm starting to believe that the only realistic way to build a team (with finances off) is through the farm system. Now, many gameplayers go the fantasy route, but I'm thinking of using PS to develop a real-life team in the fashion I think it should be done.

The tools exist, and this is how I'll proceed.
