Laddie... I want to thank you for making this AAR. It prompted me to restart my WPO game against the AI (between CHS PBEM turns).
I'm impressed with the way your war has progressed. By keeping it to a Japan-US war, it seems that he has the major advantage in the early going. It will be interesting to see how well you march back across the Pacific without the specialized amphibious equipment of WW2.
My game versus the AI has been the exact opposite. It has reached Oct, 1926 (playing the '26 scenario, obviously). After capturing Mindanao and landing troops at Laoag and Aparri (I'm using the AB map mod), the AI has gone to ground. The international army destroyed the NLF at Shanghai and I them moved most of the British troops to Hong Kong just as you have now done.
It appears that the AI has no naval forces in the central Pacific (I'm now sending the Lexington/Saratoga SCTF on a sweep through the Marshalls to make sure), so I am now getting ready to perform the relief operation. I have an Infantry Division, a Cavalry Division, a Corps HQ and a Corps Artillery unit preparing for the PI, with 4 modern BBs, 2 CLs and plenty of DDs to escort them across the Pacific.
There has been plenty of naval combat in my game, mainly night combat which has been largely inconclusive. I've sunk a CL and two DDs in naval combat while having had a few ships seriously damaged. That's it.
I have an FC-1 fighter squadron, a DH-4 bomber squadron and a SC-1 torpedo squadron at Clark Field - which the enemy has yet to march upon. The a/c have made a few naval attacks, getting some bomb hits but no ships sunk. Strangely enough, the AI has been concentrating subs along the Great Barrier Reef.[8|]
