Hi!

When I play as the allies and receive a 001 file and watch it I see Truk for a few seconds ( 1-3 sec ) and can see convoys! It does not help me but anyway. Sometimes I see minefields and subs and stuff like that. Not that often but the TRUK thing always
happens.

I am currently playing 10:eek: PBEM games and I have never really been annoyed by this and I am having a blast playing against wargamers all over the world.

As the Japanese player, I am seeing unspotted US units during every replay turn in my PBEM game.

We have tried changing our default bases, thinking this may move the screen to relatively unimportant parts of the map for the replay, but this was unsuccessful. The replay moved the screen to the area of action around Lunga, and all of the US task forces were visible to me, many of them unspotted officially.

Thank you for looking into this problem.

I'm seeing it. It seems like the combat replay is always seen from the allied side. I can see the allied subs and transports. I do not use it to my advantage though.

Mike / Matrix : I really think that this is something that ought to be fixed immediately. I mean within days.

I don't know what your dev cycle is, but this issue in particular is going to really screw with alot of people who are your core demographic, and I think it warrants and emergency patch pushed through your dev cycle as a single issue fix. Also, the fix should allow existing PBEM games to continue without interruption.

I am experiencing this replay problem as well. It seems to happen for both sides in the game.

So, whatsay Matrix on a time frame for a fix? No slippery non-committal stuff either. ;)

Pushing things through...

Post by Erik Rutins »

Dgaad,

We certainly want to fix this as quickly as possible (see the thread on the bug forum for an update as well). However, pushing things through is generally counterproductive. We did anything _but_ move quickly with Uncommon Valor's original testing. Nevertheless, this and a few other quirks have shown up now that hundreds of wargamers are playing it nonstop.

As far as we know at present, the information revealed is of limited use. Although it should not be revealed at all, it is generally not of an actionable nature by the time the next execution phase comes along. For the moment, view this as code-breaking and signal intelligence. Mike is working on fixing it as quickly as possible and it is a top priority for the first patch.

At this moment, with the information I have, if I had to choose between releasing a less-tested PBEM patch in a few days vs. a fully tested comprehensive patch in a week or two, I'd go for the latter just because it's likely to be more useful in the long run. If we introduce a new problem with the quick patch because of less testing, our effort will have been for nought.

If you focus dev on this single issue for an emergency patch, its unlikely that you will introduce a new problem in a different area.

I'm not advocating that you truncate your QA. Do your normal QA. Just accellerate the patch by limiting it to a single issue.

One day, while playing UV, my son, seeing a powered down monitor, decided to turn the machine "ON", when in fact he turned it "OFF" while UV was running.

The wierd part is when I restarted the scenario (which was open during the American planning phase in an AI game), I found that now I had switched sides! The game reopened on the Japanese side, and it was their planning stage.

This may or may not relate to PBEM. I have yet to try PBEM in this game. Howver, if it can be done to a PBEM game; well we can all imagine how this would be disaterous.

Priorities...

Dgaad,

I guess I don't see this as a game-breaking problem and therefore, in my opinion, not worthy of its own special patch cycle. While this does offer some limited information as to unidentified TF locations for a split second, it does not allow you to see TF composition, where they are heading, etc. I believe PBEM games can continue with this in place while we finish the patch without any problems.

While we could focus all our resources on this one issue and making a patch just for that, that would also push off making the comprehensive patch perhaps by a week and addressing all of the other features and fixes we're working on for that. While new info indicating that this is a more serious problem may change the situation, right now such info is not present and therefore it seems about on the same priority level as some of the other planned patch fixes.

Erik and Mike,

Thanks for your quick responses to the PBEM problem. Knowing that it is being worked on for the first patch is exactly what I want to hear, and I think most would agree.

Although this problem takes some of the fog of war out of the game, knowing that it is a temporary problem has kept my PBEM game going.

Thanks for your work, back to the war.
