I have multiple spreadsheets, notebooks, and word documents with notes on troops, planes, etc. available. I set up OOB charts tracking which divisions are under which Corps/Army HQ. I also have another set for Japanese production. I track some other information (upgrades, etc.) in WitP Decoder. I printed out a large version of the map (24" x 36") but I don't have the room to hang it up yet.

What I really want with my next computer upgrade (soon hopefully) is dual monitors so I can have WitP open on one screen, and Excel/Word open on the other. That should make taking notes a lot easier. My computer desk isn't really big enough to put my laptop and my desktop on (my current "dual monitor" solution).

Dual monitors is the way to play.... then you can have as much, or as little electronic notes open at the same time. My problem, with four games on the go at once, is ever finding the time to think in any depth on what's going on - there's normally another turn arriving.

I have two monitors, but have never been able to get WiTP to behave properly so that I could do as you are suggesting. In full screen mode it blanks monitor #2, and in Windowed mode map scrolling does not work. If you know how to make this work, I'll....um... [&o][&o]

I have that - and the solution is quite simple:
Make the resolution lower on one and place it in the middle. You can scroll then in the upper and lower part of the bigger screen...

The disadvantage is, that witp doesn't like to be used windowed. If you click somewhere else than on the game, it takes its time until witp works again...

But seriously, I do keep plenty of notes on several tablets I keep on my desk. Sure have gone through plenty of pencils.[;)]

I'm away from home until Friday, but if you still want some help I can have a proper look then. From memory, I run WITP with a command line that puts it in windowed mode and actually these days run a batch program to start up that nd other things at the same time. So I hit the one icon on my desktop and 'hey presto' up pops WTP, WITP Utility, Woos' Decoder, and Excel.... Dfferent icon for each game!

The only issues I have with running in windowed mode is I have to click inside WITP to make that the live window before scrolling via the arrow keys - can't scroll via mose, though can click on map to fast scroll.... and the fact that if I try to resixze the WITP window i gets very unhappy indeed.

I've run WitP in windowed mode on my laptop since I first got it.  I have never had a problem scrolling the map with the mouse, or the trackpoint that is built into the laptop.  WitP definately does not allow resizing the window.  It only works in the fixed resolution.  There is a bit of a delay when you click back on the game window to make it the active application, but that is worth putting up with to allow multi tasking for my notes, etc.

I also run in windowed mode on my laptop because it has a widescreen, and the stretched perspective in full-screen mode makes the text tough to read sometimes.  Mouse-scrolling is a little tricky but generally works for me (with the WitP window active).  It has made me use the jump-map in the corner a lot more, though.

Windowed mode isn't required in order to multi-task. Alt-TAB is your friend.

Terminus is right; to my chagrin I found that after using Alt-Tab (needed to review the manual during gameplay), the graphics during battle would no longer update.  I'd end up with report after report stacked on top of each other, making everything unreadable.  Then the submarine attack screen stopped displaying; instead, I'd only get the ship being attacked and the submarine appearing on the last viewed screenshot, complete with all the sound effects.  Had to restart the program to get rid of that one.
 
Even when I was still in my orders phase, using Alt-Tab would cause the graphics to update very, very slowly to regenerate the last screen view.  Going Alt-Tab during the computer resolution phase, though, is much worse.

Alt Tab works for me.
To get back to the original question -
I eat beans a lot, shot my Japanese neighbour (on one side) and denounced the guy opposite to the police. To help identify with the troops on the PI my wife and kids live in a tunnel on 1/8 rations, and I'm about to hire a small motor boat to run me over to Norway, where I intend to stride ashore saying 'sod that for a game of soldiers'.

Alt-Tab works in WITP, if you are careful. Don't Alt-Tab out if you have any info boxes up on the screen as everything else will be garbled after you return to WITP (until you close that  info box). I would say NEVER Alt-tab out of the game while it is processing a turn. If we're telling each other not to hit the escape key for fear of causing synch problems, Alt-tabbing would be  even worse.
 
As far as making the game more personally realistic, I have been keeping tabs on my esteemed opponents movements with hopes of pulling off an interception/assassination when the chance occurs...

I <ALT+TAB> constantly (playing the game) and no problem at all here.

Anyway, since we are at it... a question for the PC Gurus. Er, can you screw the monitor "altabbing" constantly? [8|]
