Convert Solitaire ASL -> Random Campaign

Post by Mraah »

This is not another "work-in-progrss" post.
I'm posting this because I saw the new scenario Forced March, by Kam99. A small tactical scenario based on squad leader.

I have Module 1 of Solitaire ASL. This has a campaign system based on your core units ... a company of infantry. Since this Module is very rare and quite expensive to obtain it might be difficult to design a Random Campaign based solely on ASL.

If anyone wants to create a RCG based on the missions (14 in all) from this module then let me know and I'll write up the missions and assist you. I'd do it myself but I'm gotten into map and model design. So, I'm suggesting to any scenario designers out there that if they want to take the plunge and do the dirty work then I can offer some assistance, if needed.

Each mission would actually be a battle plan, in terms of PcK. Now, currently, we can't have random battle plan selection (erik, add to wish list). Each battle (or mission) needs to be built and placed into the RCG. However, battle plans do have a "posture" setting ... attack, defend, defendbonus, and random. So, at least the random posture can add some variaty, not to mention the enemy random forces and setup.

Here's a quick list of the missions :

1. Cautious Advance
2. Pockets
3. Recon
4. Bunker Busting - (note) - satchel charge mod may come in handy for this one! [;)]
5. Take the Highway
6. The Fortress
7. Block Party - (note) - BYOB [:D]
8. Patrol
9. Enemy Offensive
10. Hold the Line
11. Tank Attack
12. Beseieged
13. The Bridge
14. Human Wave

Anyway ... some food for thought [:)].

Rob what do you mean when you say

"we can't have a random battle plan selection"?

Non Key battles are randomly selected depending on the number of battles the human wants to play.

For example 10 Non key battles, player chooses a campaign of 5 then 5 out of those 10 battles will be randomly selected.

Ahhhhh, I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw!

Ok, as a smelly human I need to get my definitions straight ...

Let's say I build 14 battle's, each one based on the 14 missions.
I then create a campaign with 5 sets of 14, totally 70 battles total.
Then, I designate those 70 battles as "non-key".
Finished.

With this example, if the human chooses a campaign of 10 then it will be a box of chocolates right? ... never know what you're gonna get.

Yes, depending on how you set up your dates, if every battle plan has the same date range then you would get a random selection of those battle plans. You may potential get the same battle plan 10 times over but that would be statistically very very unlikely ( 1: 1/7^10 or ~ 1 in 40353507)
