JTCS Unit Viewer

Post by Bioman »

Is there an update to the JTCS Unit Viewer available? I have the 09/06/2007 version but it has some problems when loading US or UK units in West Front.

No, you have latest version.
Error messages displayed are related to faults in original game files.

All should be fixed in 1.03 version, unfortunately JTCS will be not working with this new version

I was just going to place a post on how well the "Unit Viewer" works and that its very well designed... which it still is but sad to read that it will not work once the new 1.03 version comes out.

Is that due to the new units that will be added or a technical issue?

Thank you anyway for all the time you spent creating the "Viewer"!
Thx,

What is this viewer, or is it now redundant?

Platoon and Weapon files will be encrypted with new algorithm that is now unknown to me.
I believe that I have capability to found way to decrypt it but I'm not sure that I should do it [;)]
Jason and his team choose this new way to increase pbem credibility and any news about possible security breach can undermine their work

You can still read the raw oob and pdt files for your viewer though, can't you Arkady? Instead of reading the obx and pdx files, I mean.

Arkady, for what it's worth, i've found the unit viewer to be an excellent utility particularly the ability to compare different units. It brings all the elements of a unit together (graphics, sounds stats etc) like nothing else. It really would be a shame if a workaround could'nt be found.

To answer Grell's question, the Unit Viewer is like an encyclopedia of all the units in Campaign Series. All the information on a given unit is accessible. It's like the F2 button only far better. If you want to know a unit's concealment value, armor ratings, or whatever, it's provided by clicking a few buttons. There's even a way to compare units from different countries, so you can see whether your enemy has greater range than you. Arkady even set it up so you could access the Unit Viewer while playing a game.

I liked the Unit Viewer and used it a great deal.

I also think the Unit Viewer is a great add-on and it would be unfortunate if it was lost to the community because some players cheat in PBEM games.  It really would be a sad commentary if we were to let a few bad apples detract from our overall enjoyment of the game.  Rather than become a casualty, I personally would like to see the Unit Viewer fully integrated into the game.

Yes, it is probably the way...only problem is that those files are not necessary for the game and can contain diferent data

I'll encode some checksum for original unecrypted oob and pdt files from 1.03 game to verify integrity of displayed data...

Hi Arkady

They should be exactly the same as the encrypted data, as they are the the file used for editing and generating the encrypted platoon files. That is what we use anyway, so ... in theory, it should work ok using the raw oob files! Which is exciting news indeed!
