Production screen problem

Post by Crimguy »

On one of my games, the Resource, Factory and population boxes are blank in the production window. I am in a production phase and it's August, '61. Not sure why . . . I've attached the save.

Weird - it then went straight from production phase to my movement phase. And it's still Aug, 61.

That is very weird. Do you have an autosave from the beginning of your turn so you can load that and see what phase you start in. Months ago I saw situations where I was blitzing through turns in testing where it seems to have skipped a phase (or doubled up on one), but was never able to repeat it when I tried to. Maybe this is something similar to my old experiences. Do you remember ending your movement phase in order to get to this production phase? Since there are no messages about promotions or free trade when I press 'e' (things you'd see just before the production phase), you probably didn't try to go into the production phase. I'd suggest going back to the autosave and seeing if this repeats (if you don't autosave, you should change your preference to autosave).
All understanding comes after the fact.

I recall ending a movement phase, yes. I've played the game out a few more months and everything seems to get back to normal (it essentially repeats the month of August, 61). I'll check for the autosaves when I get home from work.

As a followup, I started a new game as CSA, and the same thing happened. I'm looking at the production screen during the movement phase in Aug 61 and there are no values in the boxes. Weird.

That's correct. You won't be able to see the values in the boxes until you get to the actual production phase. I agree that you probably "should" be able to see them in the movement phase, but it may not be a bug, and is actually working as designed. The design intent may be that they want you to know that you can't change any values during that phase, by not showing you the values. This could be an intentional clue that you're in the wrong phase to be making those types of decisions.

Yes, normally there are no values in the production screen during the movement phase. The bug you reported originally was that you were getting this in the production phase, and I confirmed that with your save so something was wrong in that case. Normally when in the movement phase, however, you won't see anything in those boxes. There was a reason for it aside from just making it obvious that you can't produce during the movement phase, but I can't remember now what the reason was.
