Suggestion: Give more battle details

Post by kennonlightfoot »

The player in the Reaction Phase gets to see considerable amount of detail on a battle while the attacking player gets nothing but a report of casualties and any command rating changes. Could you at least add to that report the commitment strengths for both sides and how many units were damaged or destroyed.

You can see this information by viewing the replay. In fact, you can review the battle results in detail by clicking on the button to the left of the pause button, on the casualty pop-up screen that appears during the replay.

No you can only view the summary of damaged and destroyed units from the replay. It never shows how many troops were committed during the battle which tells you two important things: How large the enemy force was or at least a better estimate than spotting will tell you and how good the leaders were at getting there troops to the battle (both yours and theirs).

As far as I can tell the detail battle results shows only the last battle unless you know of a way to make it cycle through them.

That's not true. If you look in the battle details, as James noted, it tells you the exact number of committed units and even shows you each die roll and the modifiers.

That's only if you use the top menu button. If you check the details while the replay is running, when the battle results pop up, then you can see the details for that battle.

Again, if you watch the replay, when the results come up, then pause the action and click on the button to the left of the pause button. This will give you the detailed battle results - the EXACT SAME information that you would get if the battle was resolved during your player turn. This tracks previous battles within the turn, as well. Not just the last one. If you look at this detailed report, you will see how many units were committed, the battle modifiers, die rolls, etc.

Or they could print two extra lines in the log file saying what the final commitment levels were.  But thanks, I didn't know that there was a way to get to that information.

After having used the above method a bit I still think the summary information for a battle should be placed in log file rather than scattered threw three differenct places.  Also, I am not sure if the Unit report in the detail report is committed or total numbers moved to the hex.  The log should display all the summary information for the battle including number of units for each side as displayed on Region detail before battle, number of units committed, and casualties as units and men/guns.
