CSA Aug 61 What happened here?

Post by Frido1207 »

Hi,

just run a short test with the 1st CSA turn in 1861.
I only moved my 2 cav units to paducah & bowling green, plus some inf & 2 hvy art to paducah.
I also moved some trransport ships on the mississippi & the tennessee river.
Skipped the production phase (built only supply).
And then this happens (see below).
Are there any unmentioned "secret weapons" the Union has & I overlooked?? [:)]

Edit: oh i play version 1.020 & yes i have the save files, if nessecary. [:)]

RE:What happened here? More tests

Post by Frido1207 »

Hi,

made some more tests today.
As far as i can tell now, it comes down to this:

critical for this issue seems to be:
a) invading Paducah
b) build fortification & / or move hvy. art. there.

Pic A shows this situation. And again a Union gunboat shows up in Region R3 (?), figting one of my transports etc.
Pic B shows the situation, where I didn´t built any fortification or moved hvy. art. there. Result: No union gunboat.

Sorry for the large pic.
P.S would be nice to get a response.

I can't duplicate this. If you can, please send me a save just before the Union AI turn so I can duplicate the bug. Send to 2by3@2by3games.com. Thanks.

Using your save, the Union gunboat warped further down the Miss River. I'll send it to Gary and add it to the bug list for the next patch.

Hi, I had this same issue crop up in a PBEM game, but the events unfolded somewhat differently. In mine:

1. I'm CSA.
2. USA invades Kentucky August 61, overruns Paducah, moves in more guys, builds fort.
3. CSA attacks Paducah in its August 61 turn.
4. USA Sept 61 reaction phase, CSA wins battle.
5. Sometime after that in the replay, USA moves gunboat through a few regions of the Mississippi brushing aside Confederate river transports.

The Blue Ghost Gunboat steams again!

Okay...for my case, it was another false report. Apparently my opponent already had his gunboat next to Paducah, and then steamed south during his turn, avoiding my Op Fire, since he was only moving out of the river region.

Damn...that's twice in one month I've been wrong. Way past my quota, and the first week ain't done yet...[:D]

I am wrong so often I am used to it by now, besides I'm Married and naturally wrong most of the time there also. - these games are complex and the learning curve is hard for us all- but I think the more we play around here- the better the game will ultimately be- lots of bugs getting discovered- which is good.
I remember in the first Combat Mission over at Battlefront they had 12 patches in the first year- Then came out with the second and final platform they used in all the later versions that was basically the total rewrite of the game. All that came from guys like us playing it like crazy and discovering all the bugs.

Besides you have to make a few errors to be human- Robert E Lee was considered the perfect student at West Point- having some sort of record for never getting a demerit- yet the year he graduated from West Point he was Second in his class. That meant that somehow- some way< it was grades in one class I believe> the other guy did better- and Lee screwed up. Even the best make mistakes. Even the best can be beaten also . [;)]

This is no bug in the original report here. Turns out warships can move through enemy transports. Since it was next to Paducah at the start of the turn, it was able to move south without taking op-fire from the Confederate guns.
