AI performance on latest official patch

Empires in Arms is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. Empires in Arms is a seven player game of grand strategy set during the Napoleonic period of 1805-1815. The unit scale is corps level with full diplomatic options

I think tactically it is better. There should be better chit selection management. I strategically it is better as well since there are much smarter diplomatic moves.

You must have a different patch than the one I downloaded. Because as far as I can tell there hasn't been much if any improvement to AI performance across all the patches. The proof of this is that the AI still has terrible, TERRIBLE set-ups...this has been true from day one.

Maybe I did??? :-)
It still needs work but it should be making better moves.
Are you not seeing those?

So, in other words, you didn't want an answer; you wanted the right to bellyache.

I think Tater is trying to ask why more emphasis isn't being put on improving the AI, that is all. He bought a copy of the game expecting to be able to play against the AI and he didn't get what he paid for and he is now upset. Why does that sound so unreasonable to some of you? It's pretty normal actually, people complain about products all the time to the company's they bought them from, that's just the price you have to pay for being in business, IMO.

That said, Marshall, the AI is still REALLY BAD.

I agree that it stills needs work BUT please at least agree that it is tons better than it was?

Well, I don't want to sway from my forum given "template". :)

I can agree that it is better, maybe 1/2 a ton better or a ton better, but tons? I don't know. ;)

So, in other words, you didn't want an answer; you wanted the right to bellyache.

So, IOW, you just want to get defensive. [8|]

The AI still has crappy initial set-ups. Your so called "answers" don't explain why this isn't fixed when the initial set-up is so critical to being able to make good moves later. So what if the AI might make better moves if it's initial set-up has left it completely crippled. And if I have to fix it myself...what exactly did I pay Matrix for?

You can call it bellyaching if you want...but I believe I am pointing out something that is truly critical to the AI performance through the course of a game. At the very least the AI should be able to start with a decent initial set-up. That alone will increase the challenge of AI play.

FYI ... We have several improved setups for the AI in 1.05.

It's funny that this has come up because the AI is now smart enough to recognize a poorly defended fleet and will attempt the forced evac from time to time. An improvement that illuminates a weakness. It will be this way for a while.
Appreciate your input.

Marshall would you clarify how the AI performs setup? AI setups and the default setups from the files are slightly different if I recall, so either they are hardwired differently or there is some setup logic? We'll have to wait and see what has been changed in v1.05 (soon??). For replayability the AI really needs several viable setups to keep players guessing. If the generic AI cannot do this then it would be good to allow it to randomly select from the saved setups for a scenario. That way players can be assured that all AI setups are adequate and interesting, or edit/remove those that are not. Just a thought.

Actually, I have a top secret dude :-) working on AI setups as we speak. A seasoned veteran EiA player who many of you may know on these forums but he has already made a good batch of setups for the AI and is improving them as well...

I have already seen a good bit of variety in his setups and his thinking so I think you guys will be happy with the results...

Not me. I posted a few of them a while back, but they were all public. I've not been involved since.

Wrong guess. For another quarter, you get to try again.

Well, I'm a tester by trade, but not for EiA. At least, not officially.

I do write a lot of bug reports on Mantis. Does that count? :)

By the way, I might be interested in becoming a tester. When you guys last put out the call for them, I was in the middle of setting up a tutorial, and wouldn't have been able to upgrade as needed, so I didn't sign up. But, if you need any more, let me know (I've given up on tutorial games).

Oh, I did misunderstand. You were guessing that Jimmer was the "Setup artist"?
Is that your final answer?
Sure you don't want to use a lifeline?

No, it really doesn't matter who it is, you should make sure that you are getting more than one opinion, that's all I meant, whether it be Jimmer or whoever.
