Long time Gamer Question....

Post by Leeds »

Guys,

I am a long time Europa gamer who likes HoI but finds it a little to cumbersome.

Does this game provide realism enough to be fun? Is it detailed?

Need some advise on whether tp invest or not..............I am one that likes games that are pretty historical and dont go off on tangents.

Thanks

I am currently writing an After Action Report (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1958252) which will give you a feel for the land aspects of the game. As the campaigns shift west there will be naval action.

This game is basically about land combat. The air part I feel is well done for the scale. The naval part is non-existant. The AI is poor.
Historical no but it is fun.

Cons:

As James indicated, the game is strictly concerned with the land war.  The air war is more highly abstracted than than land, has zero impact on the naval war, and the naval war is completely ahistorical.

As a Europa player, I think you will find the map too lacking in detail, no railroads or roads.  There is no stacking.  Concentration of force is handled solely by creating corps as opposed to divisions, a corps just being another unit, not a group of divisions.  Zones of control are too weak - movement is too easy in proximity to the enemy.  Weather is not simulated, except in timespan of a turn (thus you can perform any operation in the dead of winter that you can perform in June).  The diplomatic system is ahistorical - example, I just pressured Sweden to join the Axis in four turns of pressuring.

pros: ease of play; the supply and unit effectiveness system is adequate if not elaborate; there is some indication that the developer will continue to enhance the game, but other than a promise to improve the AI, little else is specified in terms of how much more work they are going to do on the game
