The AI and Trade Tendencies

Post by KG Erwin »

Here's a very rare (for me) gripe about PS: the AI doesn't make many in-season trades until it gets close to the deadline. Of course, "Trader KG" usually begins the season in deal-making mode, so maybe it's just me. This is related to the AI's weighting of POT(ential) , which is often questionable. Let's hope that Shaun takes a serious look at this in his new game.

I never really paid attention to that but I have noticed that trades are usually the middle to end of June and through out July. None (or, at the most, very few) in the earlier months in my replays !

I would say that easily 90% of trades happen in July.

Throughout the season, prior to July, it appears that the AI only trades under a few circumstances. For example, if a starting position player is injured for a significant amount of time and needs to be placed on the long-term DL, the AI will trade to replace him. I specify position player because if it's a pitcher, I have seen them move the next-highest END hurler from the bullpen into the #5 slot. '

Another example is if in a trade initiated by me, I take away one of their starters. They find a need to replace them and do.

Otherwise, I almost NEVER see an in-season trade occur before July.
