Barrel extension

Post by R@S »

I got a mail in my spam folder telling me to get a barrel extension for my favorite gun, increasing its accuracy. Is it a fake mail or is there a way to get the barrel extension in this game?

AFAIK its just a fake email. I also thought this would be a cool weapon upgrade.

I'm thinking of modding the silencer into a barrel extension instead. That is pretty easy to do. Silencer seems useless to me since the enemy almost always sees me first anyway.

I've had good luck sneaking up on the enemy but it's _much_ easier on some maps than others. The ones where there's some jungle or forest and you don't start in LOS, go prone and sneak your team up. Get them in ambush positions, then pick off a nearby enemy who's a bit separated from the others with a silenced head shot. In my experience, this generally does not trigger combat mode, since the other enemies don't know what exactly happened. Instead, they wander over in real-time to investigate, which bunches them up in your ambush zone, you trigger the ambush and voila, sector clear with much less hassle.

@Erik

Now that is a cool tactic. I'm going have to try that.

BTW it is easy to add an extended barrel upgrade. I actually added it, instead of replacing the silencer. So you can use both if you want. They use the same graphics but have their own tooltips and description. I can put together a mini mod if people are interested in trying it.

Also could someone with more gun knowledge than myself tell me how an extended barrel affects a guns performance. In game terms I'm assuming it should increase effective range and accuracy. What about recoil or ap cost to fire the weapon, should it affect any of those?

Erik, I'm afraid but in HG that does trigger IGOUGO combat mode, although the silencing effect works, making the rest of the NPCs unaware of your location.

Still I fond silencers on this game useless compared to JA for 2 reasons:

- The night mode is bad implemented and although it affects LoS and range we can't estimate it well because the light is the same as during the day and we don't have any way of knowing how far our effective LoS goes. This is why I prefer to do only day-ops on HG, since I know exactly what LoS to expect.
This is exactly the oposite from my style on JA where I did mosts OPs during the night... This in my opinion is one of the major flaws of HG when compared to the original JA.

- Knives are much better implemented in HG than JA. Knife when used by a suitable merc is still silent and much more deadly than a burst of silenced SMG, plus it has several other advantages like: less APs per strike, no need for ammo, no need to repair.
Knives on JA were less useful because we needed to spend a lot of APs runing to the target and the knife dmg usually required more than 2 strikes per kill, which is impossible with a normal number os APs.
