WitP War in Russia MOD

Post by HerzKaraya »

Hi,
there was another thread that I started on this MOD 2 years ago, as many of you probably weren´t in the forums yet or have already unsuscribed, I decided to start this new one.

Our Mod based on WitP and covering the Eastern Front is available for download from Spooky´s webpage
http://mathubert.free.fr/

Hope you enjoy it, don´t find too many mistakes, errors and omissions - we did we the best we could!
Some plane top art is missing, just in case you feel creative during this season...
Don´t forget to read the READ ME first!

There´s already a small patch to download, too. (1.21)

Enjoy and feel free to send positive [&o] and negative [:-] comments!!!

Greetings,

Your mod is being tested - however the ground units are unable to move.

hartmann,

your mod looks great. cant wait to try it. I wonder if the witp engine can support war in russia and war in the med, perhaps witp ae engine will be able to support war in the world ....

Dali is playing several PBEMs of the game and hasn´t reported a problem moving units. I have just started a game myself and to date I haven´t had a problem.

I have to agree that the engine isn´t perfect for land campaigns as it is designed for naval/air combat. The ideal program probably would have been TOAW, but air and sea units really suck in it. And what I really liked about WitP is the level of detail, the amount of devices available (even more in AE) and the ability to define leaders and pilots (with names) for the air units.

Greetings,

A number of impressive features have been included. Some logical analysis shall be provided.

The mod is being executed in a PBEM match. It has been presented that some of the device values have been heavily biased towards the axis (such as tank guns range = 4 vesus soviet range = 2, even for the IS-2 tanks).

In addition a number of the aircraft stats appear to be innacurate
(Yak - 1 should have greater maneouverability, less durabilty, was similar to Spitfire / BF-109F)
Lagg-3 should have greater durability, less maneouverability (was similar to P-40)

The older aircraft (I-16, etc) have been greatly underestimated, and the maneouver values should be increased significantly --> a main factor why changes to newer modern types were resisted by Soviet pilots --> I-16 was similar to A6M, and suffered only because chinese models were equipped with early variants that were slow (270mph) and equipped with only 2 30 caliber MG (not to mention lack of pilot training, logistics, tactical deployments)

In addition, the most important Soviet aircraft has been excluded (Polikarpov PO-2), 40,000 were produced for reconnaisance / night bombing missions.

It would be best if these are rectified in the next patch. [8D]
Otherwise the authenticity of the campaign has been well represented.

(engine should also be modified to cause disruption to axis forces during winter months) [8D]

I'll take the hit for that - if you mean our PBEM game - I ran a turn with a wrong wphex.dat. Or is that showing up even after the proper file was substituted?

That can be rectified by creating an additional pwhex.dat file, to be used, say, October through March, where railroads suddenly become trails, etc...

I can't find a way to upgrade any airgroup to Do-17z (Fin). No airgroup starts with it, no future airgroup has it. Perhaps aircraft #019 (Blenheim Mk. I (Fin)) can be set to upgrade to aircraft #001 (Do-17z (Fin)) as opposed to being the end upgrade for itself?

I'm running WiR 1.21.

I'm running WiR 1.21.

I´ve checked and airgroup 263 - LeLV46 upgrades from Blenheim I to Do-17 (Fin), so there you have at least one unit, unless you play with Player defined upgrades ON, and you will able to upgrade more units (if you have enough a/c)

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate everybody pointing out the bugs! BTW, as a house rule you should limit (Fin) aircraft to Finn units, (Rum) to Rumanian, and so on...

I will work on a pwhex.dat (every mans dream...) for rasputitsa and winter months, so you can agree on using it with your opponent.
I wouldn´t know how to create special disruption, fatigue or anything similar for Axis units during the Winter for an ongoing game... there are no "actioncards", "special events" or similar to be defined like in other games, so you´ll have to settle for House rules like going from 1day-turns to 3day-turns, forced axis air/ground withdrawals,... But I´m open to suggestions if anybody knows how to reflect "General Winter"

Ah! Good point. But then how come each of the three Finnish LB LeLv's have different upgrade paths? Ju-88A only shows up for the 44th and Do-17z only for the 46th?

PDU is on.
