Is all this "get off my lawn" a lot more to do with the Clint movie than just general geezerism? I realize that may be difficult to answer, as Clint is a geezer.

Here's a profound question. Was John Wayne a geezer?

I've been on night shift for over 23 years now and never had any effects from it.  I do have problems when I have to rotate my schedule around for a day shift class or mandatory meeting.  I used to be able to rotate my schedule around without problems till I got to be 35 years old, then I found I could not do it anymore.  Geez....you fall apart at 35?  I keep the same schedule when not working {my wife has a late swing shift}.  Her kids all had similiar schedules.  W even do Christmas at 3 a.m.  The first couple of weeks in the hospital were awful.  Then a bright doctor figured out that I needed sleep and wasn't getting any because of my normal sleep schedule.

Next year will be difficult.  We are trying to adopt a baby girl from China.  We should be getting her {she might not even be born yet} early next year.  I don't know what we are going to do yet for schedules {my wife and I are going to work our schedules out so that one of us is always at home with her}, but I may have to take a day shift and I am not looking forward to it.

I don't know how old you are rm, but I think swinging from tree to tree wasn't too much for me in the younger years either. Oh, the mental attacks I had started when I was 48. Christmas at 3am, it just doesn't get any better than that![:D] You have a family too, which, I guess is good, but living alone as I do, it's just that much more wear and tear working awful hours. Your access to any friends is cut sharply. It doesn't help either, that your days off were sunday and monday nights. Things are so bad with my sleep in those days, that often just staying up an extra hour or two would prove ruinous. The only thing good about getting half sleep one day, is it usually means full sleep the next.
I'm 45. My partners usually say my first ambulance was horse drawn. I remember swinging from trees.....and falling out of them. I didn't get my family till four {almost five} years ago. The days off I had were never an issue and I had a few friends that had similiar schedules {local gaming community}. Luckily, I never had any issues working nights. The only problems were when I got older and had to change between night and day shifts.

I say no! Except when he did "True Grit". In that movie, he fully embodied Geezerdom. [:D]

With all due respect ,I said it here before the release of the movie. And I've been hearing it out of geezers since I was 7. It's just something you say when you are a geezer. Most geezers say it with a shotgun. Clint had a M-1. But then again , he always did overdo it in his movies with firepower. [:D]

That's right. It is only a carbine, after all. [:D]

Nah, sonny, you ain't there yet. A grenade is not a geezer weapon. You gotta toss it, and geezers never toss it unless they gotta. Now, a flamethrower, see, is perfect for an immobile old fart, and, besides, you could light yer Lucky Strike with it after you toast the ni ... aaaahh, after you cook the goo... aaaahh, after you fry the spi... aaaahh, you know.

Nahh.  I would never throw a grenade......I'm too lazy and my arm suffers some lasting problems {lack of exercise}.

Put the grenade in the dispenser area, pull the pin and move walk behind a nearby hardened wall.

But I like the idea of a flamethrower.  I feel their use is severely overlooked in the field of law enforcement, not to mention personal protection and enjoyment.

Gentlemen (snicker) , you miss the point.....a flame thrower makes for warm (or hot ) coke. A grenade gives you a leaking coke. A geezer uses firepower to intimidate , not to blow up! The old geezer with a shotgun uses shells filled with rocksalt. "Because it hurts more , you idiot!". That's a geezers way of saying "Don't mess with me, punk". Cause every geezer knows that if you kill them, you can't chase them off your lawn, and where's the fun in that? Except for that @##$%^%^& Gekko! Blow that little $$%^^&*&****((( to kingdom come! A bit heavy to carry and they would lead to a lot of lengthy reports. Plus, the smell of burnt criminal never appealed to me.

I would like a Tazer though. They are not approved for use in NJ yet. We still have to "Season" people with OC spray. [8D]

Pepper spray is also good for toilet seats inside underwear and if your are particuliarly mean, on toilet paper.

No Taser? Bummer. My ex-partner did a study a year or so ago. The much publicized deaths after a being tasered all had one thing in common.....the subject was on Meth. Odd that the So-Sue-Me state has them and NJ doesn't.
