Armor issues

Post by balto »

Obviously, I am off work today and goofing off.. yessss.

Anyway, I know there is reference to this under Supply. But I was unsure what German armor does when surrounded because I do not remember encountering it. Until now:

German armor immediately becomes zero when surrounded and not recovering even when you open up its supply line right away? See cpdeyoung AAR thread for 19410724 - his Russian armor is surrounded, it retains its power for one turn, and if you rescue it in one turn, it is okay. That is how it is supposed to work. German armor went to zero right away and did not recover when I rescued it. It is like the game jumped a whole turn ahead.

Is there a chance that can be fixed, or that all sides suffer the same thing?

I think supply is judged at the beginning of your turn so even if you open up a supply line you still have a reduced value until the beginning of the next turn. This doesn't seem right since you still get creamed but I think it works as designed.

What happened to me, (1) I was surrounded during the Pole turn, (2) on my turn, I was at 0-0, (3) during my turn I opened up the supply line. (3) during the Pole turn, I was still at 0-0.

Now compare to the AAR. Russian keeps his strength.

What am I missing?

I've been reading the AAR with great interest and enjoying it. I'm not sure when the Russian armour was surrounded. If the German did it in his turn then it makes sense, Germany moves before anyone else so the armour was in supply at the beginning of the turn and could attack out.
Perhaps supply should be judged at the beginning and end of each nations turn.

cpdeyoung AAR thread for 19410724  is the Russian armor being surrounded.  Check it out and give me your thoughts.  I am really confused by this.  Like I said, I rarely deal with armor being surrounded, but when I saw what happened to the Russian armor in the AAR, I was like.., oh, okay.  As long as you can rescue it in one turn, you are good to go.  Thanks

It looks like the armour was surrounded on the German move, as the unit it attacked has 0 movement points. If this is the case then the Russian was in supply at the beginning of the GAME turn not the beginning of the Russian turn. If supply is judged at the beginning of the GAME turn then it makes sense. It does mean that isolated German and Italian units are sitting ducks, as they will be at 0 strength 0 move the whole turn even if a supply route is opened to them.

Excellent explanation.  I see per Mr. Doom that is also being fixed.  Thank you both.

Indeed, now when unit is out of supply it's efficiency (and AP) will decrease constantly trough three (amount moddable) turns.
So after first one it will be decreased by 33%, after second by 66% and after third to zero.

Altough we are also implementing one_hex_movement rule. Even if a unit has got 0 AP and didn't do anything it can move (but not attack) by one hex.
