VikingNo2 and I discussed this very briefly, and immediately agreed. While the losses point to a well balanced scenario, the majority of our points comes from the forts, and for several turns now this has been one sided, and not going to change.
The naval guns prevent any resistance. We could have dragged this out with the same result, but our one small revenge is to rob the Yankee scum of the joy of blasting more of us!;) :p
Nice game fellows! I had a blast. The file is being sent to both of you, Jess, and VikingNo2, so that you may look over the map. The Japanese password was 'mtfuji'.

That can't be right! The US lost all those LVTs. Are you sure you don't have the nations switched there? I'll go check.Originally posted by Goblin
Casualties:
American <-- read 'Japanese casualties'
1265 men <-- read 'Old men, women and children' How sad.
10 artillery
1 APC
30 AFV
7 aircraft
Japanese <-- read 'American casualties'
1081 men
3 artillery
1 soft vehicle
34 APC's
20 AFV's

Yep the stats are reversed. At what point did the Japanese lose 7 aircraft?
(BTW: the 1 soft vehicle was Reporter T. Collins ride.

US password: jarhead (So, Goblin, did you really decide on 'Banzai' before I blew your code?

This was a great game for me. I really enjoyed it. Particularly the confused faces and concern in the opening turns.

I gather you surrendered because you couldn't stand to see the women jump from the cliffs of Acorn Hill. Or was it the fictitious second and third reinforcement waves for the successful US Army landing? Hehee.

Thanks again, guys. That was a real interesting experience.

The surrender came because, quite literally, Viking and I were having no fun! It was really fun at first, but the last turn or two, nada. We would rally about 2 units, and be done.
Thats sounded harsh, and no criticism is meant towards Jess! Rather, Easy and CP were using their arty like they were supposed to, and we had infantry with spears. They had infantry with guns.
I'm sure CP and Easy8 will admit that it was one sided near the end...
Anyways, overall I had alot of fun, especially posting and reading the posts! Thanks gentleman! (and you to Capt Pixel;) )
PS- we only had two aircraft

Gaming is for fun
and if you're not enjoying it, it's not gaming.
I kinda wondered about that at the offset. Sitting in fixed defenses with not much more than kids with sticks defending your backside can't be all that entertaining. It's fun to potshot for a couple of turns, but we all know nobody's gonna let that last for long.
It did seem that I could hit the militia once or twice and then they'd never get it together again.
I have some suggestions in changing the scenario that might help.
Put Reporter Tom Collins in a less conspicuous transport (faster would be nice, too.
He can 'hoof it' with the A0.
Reduce visibility to 15-18 hexes. Most of the US Army forces, and a large number of Marine landing forces, could be sighted by coastal guns right from the first move (vis 23?). Or set up the US forces further away. (particularly the Rangers right in front of Big Island. One entire platoon was sunk before we even saw the bunker.)
The US Army was extemely lucky with very successful airstrikes on two key gun emplacements and access to naval smoke. Without those two key assets, my situation would have been very similar to that suffered by the Marines.
The barbed wire accomplished very little. Every unit that disembarked, did so right into a wire hex, and then could immediately move. Move the barbed wire inland one hex, and it'll be a real pain. I also expected I would encounter more mines, AT obstacles and light artillery.
Delay the first airstrike by at least one turn, so the players can have access to replot their initial bombing runs. Dump the heavy bombers. They didn't seem to accomplish anything tactical and just made the arty list longer. How about four more battleships instead of heavy bombers? :p
So those are my suggestions. How about you, Easy8? VikingNo2? Goblin?

NO. Why the heck make the USA stronger, or give them more cover?! How about arming someone on the Japanese side? You are correct on the more mines and moving the wire. I think the Japanese would have turned the island into one big minefield.
Four more Battleships? We would have quit four turns sooner. Our biggest complaint was lack of arty to support the anti-AB operations, and your ship guns.
Anyways, Jess, it really was fun at first, but against humans.... Anything we had that was dangerous (except a few tanks) could not move, and thus could be killed with a single smoke round (effectively).
Collins? Next time leave him on board the troop ship.

Actually the artillery access was fine. Between random contact and sharing the resources, we still usually had just enough to do the job. Most of the arty I called in was smoke. It had exactly the effect that Goblin described.
Perhaps a trade-off of, say, every third coastal gun for something more mobile; a couple of decent infantry companies and/or more armor platoons along the coast. And more mines and ATG caves.
Good game, Jess. I think it would probably play well against the Japanese AI. But I think the Japanese human player needs more active resources (like artillery) to make it interesting.
I think that if the airborne drop zone was closer to the coast, both sides might have more to work towards. I loved your dry creek bed and the terrain in 'The Middle' (probably because I didn't have to fight in it). Acorn Hill proved to be a royal headache too.
And Goblin's right about Collins. Stay out of Harm's Way.

First of all, I'd like to congratulate Goblin and VikingNo2 on a great game. And special thanks to my partner in arms, Capt. Pixel. A great time was had by all.
And last but not least, a tip of the helmet to the Trouble Meister, M4 Jess, for making this all possible, (even if I do have to kill ya again someday:mad:
)
I pretty much agree with what the other players said in analysis.
It was a real see-saw battle. The Japanese made the landings a living hell for the Marines. I was literally cringing everytime those shore batteries opened up. And watching my Airborne getting overrun was ownright painful. It was only after we consolidated our beachheads that we began to get underway.

That was a very entertaining fight! Good job everyone and especially Jess!
Here's my little 2 cents (from a hyperthetical but "logically" standpoint):
I totally agree with the barb wire thing, and more mines and AT obsticles. Japan would have mined the beach area extensively one would think.
Even though in the OOB militia only has bamboo spear/ceramic bomb, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for some of the militia/civilians to get them hands on some weapon. Maybe you can arm a small portion of the militia with various/mixed misc small arms, pistols, rifles, etc. And morale should be set to very high for all the jap units including the milita since they're defending their homeland fanatically.
One more thing, I'd think the U.S. airdrop should come in more force than that. If the U.S. is going to airdrop at all I don't think the war planner is going to put in a small force that will get wiped out in a few turns.
