Been AWOL

Post by Kindaas »

I bought this game when it came out many years ago with the understanding that it would be playable against other players via TCP/IP.

Is this available yet or did I pay for a game I'll never enjoy?

Thanks,

I'm afraid you will be disappointed.  The design of the game does not have give and take action between the players during a turn.  It's one player making all their moves, then the second player making all their moves, followed by combat resolution.  The best you could do with TCPIP would be sending the saved game turn to your opponent like a play-by-email game, only really fast.  [;)]

Truk,

Did you ever do the TO liveaboard?  Assuming that is where your screen name came from.

Was thinking about doing that for a midlife crisis.

Yes I did. 2 weeks in Truk and 2 in Palau. I suspect that it's as close as I'll ever come to a religious experience.

If you want to play in real-time, I suppose you could use IMs or IRC (or the phone!) to chat while you plot your moves. I think Luskan said that he is playing this way, and that it speeds up the game quite a bit, since you know immediately when a turn is ready.

I am using my e-mail provider "Send SMS" service. You know the moment turn entered your box. [;)]

having been in war games before the computer up to present day I have found that TCP/IP to be more trouble than it is worth. This is a game will require a great deal of time for each turn and it simply does not work well with this type of connection. So be happy with PBEM which works well with this game.
