Naval classification error

Post by kirk23_MatrixForum »

Hello folks,
I just downloaded and run the game for the first time, and as soon as I got to the German naval page Blucher is listed as a battlecruiser ? Wrong she is an Armoured cruiser with 12 x 8" guns. The 1st German battlecruiser was Von Der Tann with 8 x 11" guns. Has anyone else noticed glaring classification errors within the game or obvious data base problems?

Also while I'm here how come the UK is a strange shape on the map and Scapa Flow has been moved to the middle off England?
Regards,
Graham.

Graham,

Actually, referring to the Blucher as a "battlecruiser" has a historical basis too.  You're correct that the Blucher should have been classified as an armoured cruiser.  But the British, at least initially, considered the Blucher to be a battlecruiser.

Graham,

Moving Scapa Flow to the middle of the UK is a concession to trying to get stuff on the map that would otherwise be off the map.  Everyone who plays this game knows that Scapa Flow is much farther North.  But if you tried to place Scapa Flow normally, that would distort the map (or more likely shrink it).  A small concession to avoid a more difficult issue.

Hi Eric,
I know the propoganda and miss information that britain had regarding the new class of battlecruiser, Fishers brain wave off speed being armour? wrong they were designed to fight the Armoured cruisers of the period. Althought the 3 battlecruisers lost at Jutland on the British side was down to bad cordite handling and lack off safety precautions, and not down to there vunerability via armour protection. As for Blucher she should not have been in over her head 8" guns are no match for 12" and above the British were using.

The Scapa flow thing I guest was the case, thanks for feed back.
Regards,
Graham.
