And here´s the second screenshot of total ac losses. Not much B-24 shot down, with 40 each month the number is steadily growing...

hehe. This round went to the Japanese. We only launched 129 land based fighters, which means Cap percentage was once again totally crappy but we had an insane number of carrier based fighters on LRCAP in the hex. This must have been something like 90% of my carrier based fighters and that´s absolutely amazing as they are coming in from two hexes range. The damned P-38s bounced us (yet again we were flying higher than the escorts and it´s over our own base [8|]), shot down two of our fighters and after 4 were damaged they turned back due to low morale. Then our fighters dropped down on the bomber formations.

The Tojos didn´t do much, totally amazing was the performance of the undergunned OscarIIs as they shot down several enemy bombers (including a Liberator VI). I was crazy enough to watch the whole replay of this engagment, so I spent over an hour to watch this airbattle (in Nikmod with mostly damaged aircraft it takes far longer than stock) and for the first 40 min it didn´t look like the enemy bombers would turn back and this was pretty much frightening. They attacked for the third day in a row and there were mostly the same bomber groups involved so I was amazed that their morale still was so high. But then they started to turn back in small number, I still had a bad feeling. After an hour or so, there were some 50 bombers left so I expected to still lose 50+ fighters on the ground. What made it to the target in the end? 2 Wellingtons and an obsolete Blenheim. And those three bombers destroyed 6 Tojos on the ground... [8|]

Nevertheless it was a big victory over the Allied bomber armada today. I doubt they will show up again tomorrow. Once again it was an all out maximum effort to defend just this one single base. And to be honest, it didn´t look like I could defend it against the more or less unescorted bombers. I nearly employed 80% of my IJA fighters, more than 100 land based Zeroes and nearly 200 carrier based Zeroes. In total we surely saw nearly 1000 of my fighters fighting over Darwin in the last three days. Guess something like 600 Tojos are now crated on AKs on their way to bases in Northern New Guinea (Western in reality...).

Note the loss rate of the B-17 once again... [:(]

My troop convoys can now unload unharmed at the base as I´m sure the enemy bombers´ morale is now so low that they would be turned back. At the end of the day, the airfield was 100% repaired and the service facilities were down to 17% damage. Got nearly 1000 eng at the base now and they repair even this huge airbase in no time. [:)] KB will now be ordered to Darwin and dock there.

what the hell? God damn it! The games´ routing of task forces is bad enough and you should check all your TFs daily to make sure they go where you want them to go. Unfortunately for me, this also is true for the ground movement. There was the troop stack of the units that took Chengtu and they were set to march East again. All my troops moved one hex EAST today and this bgd moved SOUTH and shock attacked into Chungking! [:@] The unit is down to 42/90 and has 24 assault points left! What a f*cking sh*tty crap...

look at the enemy´s adjusted av... insane, I guess I have never seen such an adjusted av before in WITP. And you shouldn´t forget that the enemy is starving here already, losing a dozen assault points each day. With full supply I guess the adjusted av would be over 100.000. [X(]

This happening was the downside of this day´s turn...

we keep on kicking around what is left of the ten units that were retreating a couple of times already... 2nd USMC div is still faster than our troops shock attacking / pursuing 60 miles a day... [8|]

there are now two US Army divs moving North on the railway. Two are not enough for an offensive on Darwin. Two helping to defend Wyndham would be a problem for us though. But we have our forces already between Wyndham and Darwin so the Allied coming from the South can´t move to Wyndham without fighting their way through.

Urban hex, fort level 9, preparation probably at 100%... no wonder the Chinese get such a high adjusted AV at Chungking, even without supply enough.  't would probably need all of China Expeditionary and Kwangtung Commands to crack that nut.  And even then...[8|]

Sub attack near Tarawa at 85,91

Japanese Ships
MSW Shonan Maru #7, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
MSW Shonan Maru #8
MSW Seki Maru #3
MSW Noshiro Maru #2
MSW Mejima Maru
MSW Kaiyo Maru #1

Allied Ships
SS Seal

small MSWs are the same throw away weapon like Allied PTs are... the only difference is that Allied PTs are dangerous and IJN MSWs are totally useless, at least the small ones. Ah, yes. A sub in a base hex...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Darwin at 36,84 [:@]

Japanese Ships
CV Hiryu, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Mikazuki
DD Nagatsuki
DD Kikuzuki
DD Fumizuki
DD Minazuki

Allied Ships
SS Shad, hits 3

and hey ho, another spotted sub in a base hex succesfully attacks a heavily escorted task force. And this time it HURTS! This is not FOW, this is a hit! The CV even suffers a fuel storage explosion and you can imagine that this isn´t fun. Only 5 DDs show up here, but KB is escorted by 9 DDs. Hiryu won´t sink but isn´t able to launch aircraft at the moment. Sys 34, flt 40, fire 23. Darwin is a level 6 port and I´m sure Hiryu will be pumped out there but with 23 fires I guess the carrier will end up with something like 50 sys damage. Means this ship is out of the war for at least 6 months. And of course this now means we have to defend Darwin now even more against Allied bomber attacks. We have to keep the port secure at all costs. Damn it...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Kendari at 33,71

Japanese Ships
DD Minegumo
DD Natsugumo
DD Arashio

Allied Ships
SS Amberjack, hits 7

one hit, 6 near misses. Later on Amberjack was once hit by a Helen and another time by a Jake and sunk! Banzai! Cause given in the sunk ship list was a 250kg AP bomb hit. With so many subs in this area we got a lot of attacks today, we have set our Helens in the area to 20% nav search, also KB´s Vals and Kates are flying 10% nav search. Don´t want to use the vacuum cleaner 100% nav search tactic though.

Miller has set his bombers to nav search also (percentage unknown but it looks like it´s quite high) and he spotted every single TF in this area today, putting several bombs into supply and troop ships, as well as on one of my RO-class subs. Wyndham Derby and Broome are heavily capped so attacking those bases with long range IJN bombers is no option at the moment. Especially as we spot more and more Corsairs on Cap... say good bye air superiority...

Out of a total of 37000 troops at Darwin to start with, it's a nice reduction. Your VP for army losses must have nicely increased, right ?

yeah, there´s not much left of those retreating troops, but you may not forget that the 2nd USMC division also was part of those troops at Darwin and it escaped after being forced to retreat one time. How many troops would that be? 10-15.000?

VP for Allied ground losses went through 18.000 a couple of days though... [;)]

the second strike then gets the escorts... I´m lucky if I get 20% of my bombers to fly... another APD is heavily hit and we took down a nice number of Warhawks... god, those Warhawk pilots really must have low exp. I wonder why Miller lets me score easy kills in this area when he trains 200 fighters just 1200 miles West. He could transfer those fighters in in two days. Instead he bombs Wallis and Pago Pago with his Bostons. thanks...

And here´s the interesting screenshot of this turn. What the heck is Miller up to? We´ve spotted those two US Army divs moving North and they are now heading towards Alice Springs? [X(] I don´t understand this move but hey, suits me well. The 2nd USMC division will make it easily to Wyndham and will bolster the defenses there, absolutely bad news. I guess it still has something like 250 assault points, and the Marine divs have a lot of firepower.

My Army is moving, doesn´t look like Miller will bring in reinforcements and The 60 Allied units left in Northern Australia are mostly base forces for sure, the question will be how many inf and tank units he will have left to defend Wyndham. If Wyndham falls, then I´m sure Derby and Broome will only be a cakewalk.

would take months until he could move to Perth and then up to Broome. And I also doubt he thinks I´m going for more than just Northern Australia. I have no idea why those two divs are moving towards Alice Springs.
