The new Window mode

Post by EagleMountainDK »

Hi,

Is it possible to specify the size of the window when running in a window or is it a fixed size?

Cheers

The window will run at the resolution you set....

Nice, thats what I want to hear. [8D]

One more question...

Is it the whole game that runs in a window, i.e. battles, force selection, scenario creation or just the battles?

If you are at the office, you cannot hide the geme behind an Excel spreadsheet!

Well, you could say you wrote a "The Bloooooood!" macro, which is very helpful for your work efficiency.

I wonder if that means it'd be possible to play in Window mode on a netbook at 1024 X 600 resolution? Anybody know/hazard a guess?

At the moment I play CoI with no issues, though I believe the min resolution for that is 800 x 600. If there was a chance I could get TLD going - I assume it'll get shortened to that - then my purchase would be greatly accelerated and the Great Patriotic War will grind to a halt.

Well the minimum res mentioned in the spec is 1024*768...you can make a guess from that I suppose.

The minimum available resolution in the game settings is 800x600.  Because my monitor force fits everything to the max viewing window, windowed mode will only work for me in that resolution.  My monitor is a special case to say the least.  Probably better used as a planter for some flowers or better yet a night stand or coffee table.[8|][:D]

Anyway hope the first sentence gives you some useful info.

*edit*
I should add for clarification that the UI native resolution is 1024x768 but when I run the game in windowed mode at 800x600 the UI fits within that window. Don't ask me how Steve did this but it works brilliantly. AGAIN I must point out that my monitor does some really whacky things so if this is the one and only detail that would make or break your purchase we'll need to get you some more info to be sure what I'm saying will be the same for you.

Guess what I'll be doing tonight! Thanks for the information RD_Oddball, that's the slight glimmer of hope I need to justify a purchase now. I'll post to let you know how it goes. It'll be going on my desktop as well but I'm into the portability of the netbook at the moment.

Yes.  Native res for the UI only.  The tactical maps will display at whatever your chosen resolution is.  This is all based on the original scale Atomic chose to draw the UI at (800x600) and the resolution at which those UI screens look best.  Because the maps are bigger they look good at the higher resolutions as well as lower.

Downloaded last night - and apart from my impatient wait as the 1.2 GB downloaded - everything went smoothly; didn't even get the min height resolution of 768 message I did when loading CoI. Playing very nicely in fullscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. One happy gamer looking forward to a long weekend.

So, from what I am reading, if I play this on my widescreen laptop at 1440x900 - my UI will be 1024x768 and the map will be 1440x900? I'm a bit confuses on this. I would probably play fullscreen though - so will this scale up from 1024x768 (like CoG:EE) or will it be in desktop resolution?

your UI (main screen, Battlegroop screen, summary screens etc etc) will have a black border around it.

The battle you fight will fill your screen entirely.

Andrew answered the last part of your question I missed.  The UI will be displayed at desktop resolution not scaled up.

I just hate it when the boss asks silly questions about the joystick and helmet mounted sight. Everybody knows that they make Excel work much better!
