Russian Base Use?

Post by John 3rd »

Is it possible to transfer American planes using Russian Bases to create a northern land bridge between Alaska and Burma/India?

Not unless Russia is at war with Japan.

It's very possible to fly ANY allied aircraft through Russian bases without the Russians being active. The only catch is that its transfer only, they cannot launch any offensive missions from them until Russia is active.

Gamey? Yes, Russia historically impounded any aircraft landing in its borders.

To my best knowledge, Kadrin is right re. the possibility of transfer - at least in vanilla stock games. I think in many games where Nippon meets large Chinese hordes in Burma and/or China this is due to the transfer of transport planes from the west coast to this area, as airlift capacities of the RAF alone are limited.

Gamey - well, if one feels that way one should create a house rule. Apart from that, it probably depends on your definition of gamey. If gamey means deviates from what happened historically, it definitely is. But this happens all the time in this game. Taking a city on a day it was not taken is gamey. Chosing a different axis of attack is. PDU is. ...

If gamey means exploits the code to do something unrealistic, this transfer is not gamey. This transfer assumes a different political situation then the historical one; but in general I believe that if nation A is allied to nation B and A is quite dependent on the shipment of substantial amounts of war material by nation B, B will have a bit of a lever in negotiations aiming at free passage of airplanes through A's territory. Of course, if A and B are not the best of friends, there may be oher issues to consider as well...

You can transfer through Russia... and the Allies routinely did in in WW2... if a US aircraft showed up unexpectedly at a Soviet base, it would get interned, but prearranged flights went on to supply China (and Russia) were fairly routine... AFAIK, the only thing you can do is make transfer flights, you can't order supply missions while based in Russia.

So, it happened in the course of actual events, and this would be my definition of "not gamey".

Terminus and I are on the same wavelength.  I play the Japanese too much.  OK.  So it can be done.
