How is naval and/or land combat resolved.
Just a list of numbers or is there anyway too make a difference in the outcome?

Thanks,

There are simulated dice rolls which determine the results of each unit firing at another unit.  The total of many adjustments are applied to the dice roll total (limited to the range -6 to +6).  This adjusted attack value must be equal to or greater than the defense value of the target unit.  Infantry and cavalry brigades fire once.  Artillery brigades fire twice.  Naval units and heavy artillery fire once.  The detailed combat report shows the dice roll and adjustments for each attacking unit.  A popup screen lists the detail of adjustments.  This list will help you understand which things might have changed the outcome.
