Allied Recon/Recce?

Post by xe5 »

There are 5 types of Allied recon teams but none in the Allied force pools?

Hate to waste perfectly good 'zooks as scouts.

I'd like to hear about this also. Why were all 7 scout and recee group teams (3 US, 3 Brit, 1 Cnd) available in the AlsTeams.txt left out of the Battle Groups and Force Pools. The only Allied BG to have any recon slots in the Force Pool is the US 38th Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division, which is not used in any of the battles, operations or campaigns.

What's up with that, guys? Allied para units actually have working AT guns on the night battle of 6 June, but no scouts?

Very, very odd.

US infantry and airborne divisions had very little in the way of dedicated recon -- if you parcel out the few regimental and divison-level recon assets and apply the FP scaling used for CCTLD there aren't any to speak of for a front line infantry company.  Not sure why 38th RCT has some - have to double check.  But we could divy up some rifle teams to form some ad-hoc cannon fodder.

Thanks for looking into this, Steve. Now, can you justify the AT guns in every para BG on the opening night drops? Don't carve into the PBI's, replace the ahistorical AT guns with scouts. Even ad-hoc recees would be acceptable, as disperse units tasked with what they had.

The airborne divisions all had AT guns in action on June 6 -- due to abstractions in the game the guns are present in the force pools for the night battles, even though historically they played no real part until after dawn.  The same is true of the German armor in the Utah area.

I'd argue US Recon tms wouldnt be 'dedicated' but ad hoc in the same sense that a 6-man Rifle tm isnt 'dedicated' but rather an extemporaneous half-squad. The remainder of the 12-man sqd might include an 2-man Recon tm, a 2-man BAR tm and a 2-man Bazooka tm.
