i too include flame units (flammwagens being my favorite) as a part of any force. they work well in low visibilty and dense woods (to make up for their lack of range) and do equally well against armor and infantry (love watching troops trying to assault my flame tanks only to get a fiery surprise). another benefit of the flame tank...you never really miss against infantry or loaded vehicles...the fact that the hex is on fire supresses the hell outt em.

i disagree however about the german halftracks. though they are great lil mobile mg platforms that can take a wallop, i prefer the us halftracks. the 50 cal/30 cal combo is a killer (50 cals should be outlawed - i had a king tiger destroyed by one ;)

i also prefer the 50 cal jeep, lil scout that can carry troops and have the vicious 50 cal (youd think the crew would scavenge the 50 cal once the jeep was destroyed)

Well, they won the French Indian war, but I think that was part of the 100 years. They won against the Spainish Armada(spelling?). They won the Boer War. They won they Gulf War. They won their operation down in Asia in the 60s. Anywho, enough of defending the Brits.

Err well actually Kylie is Australian but I think is she is resident here in the UK. All I can tell you for sure is that her (clothed) butt is on the front page of the tabloids virtually every day of the week ;)

Re the Brits and war - well the record is mixed it's true. We certainly can be arrogant but then so will most nations when they are "top dog". In WWII I think it's fair to say we did amazingly well in the early years but were extremely dependent on American equipment and supplies in order to do so.

Getting back on topic ...

The Brits certainly do have flame tanks, the Crocodile (Churchill variant) springs to mind. I'm not overly familiar with the infantry units but I would think in the Burma campaign flamethrowers would have been around (don't know if this is in SPWaW though).

Talking about AT guns, I have constantly been frustrated with 88mms playing as the Germans. Due to their size (2 for PaK43 and 3 for FlaK18) they only seem to be able to get one shot off before they get spotted and a cavalcade of return fire descends on them. Even if they remain unsuppressed they don't get very many shots, 2 or 3 per turn. Also I find it a real handicap that they can't move without transport.

In contrast the British 17 pdr, which is almost as powerful (I have regularly seen it take out Tigers and the like at 30+ hexes), is size 1 and therefore much more able to remain unspotted. It generally has 3-5 shots per turn and can move 1 hex per turn of it's own accord. This makes it a much better (in game) weapon than the 88 IMHO.

88's should be on hilltops in a forest or building, firing at 30 hex ranges or so. If the enemy is close enough to return fire, take the truck that's less than 20 points, load it up, and drive the truck back 10 hexes, unload, wait for next turn, start shooting again.

Keep truck and Gun in the same hex, and out of harms way.

Which is why you go for the truck as soon as you see an 88, rather than the gun itself. Without a ride, they're sitting ducks.

I did the same thing Belisarius, instead of trying to suppress the 88 itself, I fired some 60 mike mikes into the half-track it loads on. It's weird how easy it is to suppress an 88 actually...2 tank rounds, even AT ones will give it something like 5+suppression. Add an MG and it gets even more suppressed.

Why do rifle-grenades have better armor penetrating power than grenades?? Arent' WW2 rifle-grenades just literally that? I saw a picture once of an M1 Garand with a 'rifle-grenade' The rifle literraly had a pineapple grenade launcher attached to the front of the gun! And it required a special round to fire, sort of like a blank to throw out a lot of gas or something.

So the grenade fires, in the process the ring is pulled somehow and the fuse counts, and the grenade explodes. I don't see how rifle-grenades then can have better AP than grenades...

Well they only have a range of 5, and they probbly go that far before the grenade explodes, so I guess it would be like a very poor HEAT round. Punching through then exploding.

Why does it seem that a squad having a rifle grenade forbids them from carrying normal grenades?

only four weapon slots
it might be that the squad shoots their grenades intead of throwing them, so they stil have grenades, just not hand grenades. i might be wrong though

Speaking of the Brits, I've started to use Tetrarch airborne tanks whenever I play them. I drop them just behind some trees at the back of the enemy's starting point, (although it didn't go well the first time... See Vikingno2 vs. Vetkin III) the whole 2 platoons got smashed because they mis-dropped into the enemy's main deployment zone!!! hehehehe

But they're pretty good, max armor penetration of 84 for the CS and 76 for the regular version although the regular version has better fire control. They have very flimsy armor however...but they're fast (38 movement). bad thing is I think they can be destroyed even by .30 cals or 6.*-7.*mm MGs

Ask katana if you guys wanna know if they're effective hehe. Right katana? :D

I wanna know who else uses them and how...

Mine would have to be the German Wurframen rocket launchers. Not only good sized HE rockets but FLAME rockets too! Excellent suppression tool!

For guns I like the German 88's, but the US 90mm AA makes a pretty fair AT gun and can fire, be loaded, moved, dropped and fired again in the same turn.

For anti-infantry the Flakveirs, the US quad .50 or the Japanese triple 25mm AA.

Best all-around tanks would have to be the Panthers...good guns, nice armor and cheap compared to Tigers.
What, me worry?

Favourite Weapon?

Post by Irinami »

I haven't been playing for long, but my favourites are split between two.

USCAV: Full infantry squad with 2BAR's, 18 moves, 22pts.
GE Mcycle Sqd: Full infantry squad with an MG34 with 55 moves(!!!), 22pts.
The Japanese Cavalry is allright, as are the motorcycles, but neither are anything I'd want to press an attack with... except maybe that whole Banzai hand to hand thing, if they have it. Still, you've got to get in the same hex to do that, so...
