Using Finances in the 1940s

My 1946 Dodgers are now the best team I've ever constructed, but doing so was expensive. I've traded for Stan Musial, Joe DiMaggio, Howie Pollet and Johnny Schmitz. They are excelling, but this is literally the best team money can buy. At this point, I don't anticipate signing Jackie Robinson in '47, unless I can get him for a reasonable price.

Amongst the potential free agents is Bob Feller, and I will try to get him, IF I can afford him. This is a fun season for me, so far, but in a career league, one must always look to the future, and keep a close eye on the treasury.

That being said, building a dynasty in "the Golden Age" with financials ON is a different set of challenges.

This is totally unrealistic. My Cardinals would NEVER trade Stan Musial, and ESPECIALLY to the Dodgers!  [:-]
 
I think I will make a league with the 1946 Cardinals and trade for Gil Hodges and Pee Wee Reese to get even.  [:D]
 
Seriously... I have enjoyed playing a 1963 league with finances on, and you are right about the challenges. I have set a soft cap for myself using the average salaries of the top 5 teams other than myself. It helps me to avoid temptation, and it's fun to try to construct a balanced team within a budget (albeit a lavish one). I also made a rule that I would only make 1-for-1 trades, and that definitely makes it more challenging to stockpile talent. However, you can still trade relievers with high potential for almost anyone, so I picked up a couple in in the amateur draft.

For the record, Orcin, the Cardinals have been a particular target for Trader KG. I traded for Howie Pollet and Red Schoendienst. I also got P Virgil Trucks from the Tigers. To acquire Stan Musial, I offered Trucks. In this case, my trading strategy worked out well. NO cheating was involved, as I do player-for-player deals. The Cardinals needed a strong pitcher, so I offered them one.

BTW, earlier I DID trade away Pee Wee Reese to the White Sox. To replace him, I got Lou Boudreau from the Indians. Some of my deals have seemed to make no sense, but there IS method to my madness, as I've learned to be a relentless opportunist. [:D]
