Expensive? I thought it was cheap and didn't want to raise the matter in case they corrected the ridiculously low price. Great game. Played WITP since it came out as allies vs ai jap. Cut short my first jap player vs allied ai (2jan42). My invasion of India was underway, most of the DEI,PI(except Bataan),Noumea,Suva,Pago,Canton,Wake,Johnson,Midway ... were ijn property. China had lost Yenen and the remaining oil fields were soon to fall. All that in < mth so I was happy to see AE come out.

The first turn is a real time killer, but once you've saved a copy for future games, other turns are of reasonable duration. To ease newbies into the game it might be nice to have a professional first turn either side as a starting point. I'd examine such a thing to see how it differed from my own, but who is willing to spill all their best kept secrets?

Magna Mundi made EU3. Excellent expansion and they are working on the next one too. [:)]
?
Magna Mundi is a mod, not an expansion, is it?

I suppose you're correct. It's big enough to me to be an expansion though, but they do call it a mod. Sorry for using the wrong word.

Nevermind, I thought you meant by "expansion" that MM was a business product instead of a third-party work [:)]

Those of us who have played its' ancestors know this game will equate to a few pennies per day in gaming. It is that much fun to play.

Considering the hours I have played, and time thinking about it when I am not, cheapest game I have ever bought. When I get divorced over it, then it will seem expensive. [:D]

Take into consideration that it is 4 years of dynamic entertainment, the price is very low..

The question is not Why is this game so expensive as is IS it worth the price? Well, those of you who bit and have been playing a month now, is it that much better than WITP? Are you happy customers? I have owned WITP for five years and never played a full campaign game, just takes too frigging long (I wanted a more strategic, less tactical game of the PacWar). I also bought HOI3 and it is a mess but I think I can finish it in this lifetime once it has been patched 3 or 4 times. So I have a few more weeks until my promo code expires, confince me this game is the 2nd coming...

Was this game not developed by unpaid volanteers for the most part tho? hard to imagine there costs justified the price. they charge it because they can most likely.

I have bought nearly every naval wargame that ever existed, from the old Harpoon series to the Battlecruiser/Warship games, to Bismarck, then Carrier War, PacWar, UV, WitP and now AE. I bought other wargames too; 3rd Reich, operational level games, tactical games, strategic games. I've got wargames that I played once and left on the shelf, others that I played for a while and then got tired of. AE, though, is BY FAR the best strategic level simulation of the Pacific War that is out there now and probably in the future as well. I will be playing this game years from now, just like I did PacWar and WitP. For the money you spend now, if you consider how much you'll play it and the enjoyment you get from it, the cost/hour will be very, very low.

If you can't afford it right now, put it out there among your family/friends that this would make a great birthday/Christmas/whenever gift and try and get it that way. If you like detailed strategy games with a heaping helping of operational tactics and doctrine mixed in, this game is for you.

Just my thoughts on this subject.....

I have been looking at this and a few other games Matrix and others have covering the PTO in WWII. Nothing else even comes close to the scope and magnitude of this game. Add the scenario building capability, campaign replay, force/equipment/map editing capability and I am sure many things I have not yet discovered that can be done with this Superb Game Engine and IMHO it is worth every penny.

Thank You Matrix [&o]

OK now get busy on this for Europe WWII... [8D]

I'm already close to 50 cent per hour played in just one month. factor in my free time spent daydreaming about AE and the cost per hour is much lower. [:)] "Nothing else even comes close", I agree without a doubt.

Strictly Apples to Oranges... none the less... here's my take on this!

A MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) type of game... $14.99 / month (the amount you
spend = the amount of time you can play). Basically, can go from there... *shiver*

A RTS (Real-Time Strategy) .. In this case, WiTP:AE... $ / 1 time fee! I did say "1 time" !?

'nuff said! [;)]

You want to call AE an RTS again?

Actually AE is best referred to as a LTS; Long Term Strategy game [:D]

LOL... I agree with Stuman... with a big emphisis on LOOOOOOOOONG [8D]

I cant really compare games like to to the MMORPG Genre. Major differences. I and my children run several, Aces High II, World of Warcraft, Dark Age of Camelot, Fighter Ace... in those I cant sit around a sip a Beer or a Scotch n Water (Ice cube floating in the Scotch) and think about what I might do and how I might accomplish it etc... Those games are for After I have had a few Beers or Scotch n Water's [:D]

But I do agree with the analysis of $/Time Played. Like some weekends BOBII WOV or Steel Panthers WAW pays for itself more than once... and then some months its very expensive.. [8D]

But I can see how to someone that really does not have the frame of reference as to how this game compares to most of the strat games out there it can initially have some sticker shock. I mean lets get real here, the vast majority of the stuff out there is pure crud plain n simple. Not many games out there really draw a crowd because you can spend 3 weeks working out the plans, details and all just to have 1 Game day run off. I mean the Mainstream is not into games like this. IMHO most of the Mainstream is into like a suitcase next to the couch with Halo 3 on the Xbox. Their most pressing strategic concerns are things like how long will that suitcase of cheap beer stay cold enough to drink and not taste any worse than it already does... [8D]

Agreed, it's like comparing Monopoly and any good old Avalon Hill / SPI wargames. Video games are today's easy Monopoly, CLue...games. We are the AH /SPI crowd that are seen as being a bit over there[:D] , way over there!

As the original creator of the Thread, I am happy to say that I pulled the trigger and ordered the game (I got a bonus today and thought that I should indulge myself even if is on the lower side due to the economy) , the game is 30% away from finishing downloading. I am looking forward to play the game and this would be my first videogame of good complexity.

Well looks like the download has completed...so here I go[:)]

Sure, Termie... I usually average a turn a day. Since I play 1 day turns, that makes it a Real Time Strategy game for me!
