Nato Mod....

Post by Obsolete »

Thought I will do a little bit of modding since so many people want to see only Nato symbols.

I'd like to know what the NATO fans think so far.... am I on the right track? Perhaps I should make the counters Grey for Axis and Red for Communists?

Hmm, I have an issue I'll have to ask you guys.  The Nato symbol for cavalry is a diagonal line from top right to bottom left, while that for a Scout is the same thing.  So this may get confusing.  I'll have find an alternative.  Any good suggestions?

Anyhow, I'm making these so when they flip over (happens now and then), the bottoms look the same as the top, so no need to re-load maps.

I also have another question, with Nato symbols the icon for WHEELED units is three small circles at the bottom of the counter.  Does this also stand for units that use treads, or not?  I"d like to know so I can correctly distinguish between different self-propelled artillery and not.

Well done Obsolete...but not for me. I never did think the game engine was going to suit counters and imo I was right.

But hey...it's an option and other people are feeling the love...well done. [&o]

Whoops...sorry [:D]

I didn't mean anything by it. He's done a good job, I just meant I wouldn't be using counters as I think the style of the game needs unit icons...for me it just fits better.

Like I said, Obsolete...god job though. I think you will have made quite a few people happy [&o]

I suggest you look at using Jones Software Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME) to swap this mod in and out.

That way, if you find a mistake, or new units get added in a patch, you can uninstall, fix the mod, and reinstall.

That's pretty good but mostly for modern stuff.

Try here for some 1941-42 German symbols:

Alright thanks guys, these help to explain a few things.   I see REAL cavalry uses a solid-triangle NOW, ETC.  I'll do some more photo-shopping on Monday and see how we do.

Hmm, when it comes to Partisans, now I am also stumped.  I guess I'll use the Infantry symbol for now.  Perhaps later on I'll add a 'P' character to them for better indication?

An infantry symbol with a P in the center of it makes a good partisan icon.

Well, I'm working on the 1950 roll-out date, but I may miss some units since I believe we have cancellation dates for certain units.

Anyhow... so far infantry, scout, and artillery units are done (though some could and will do with tweaking later on).  I'll save air-power for last, so that leaves AA, Tanks, and Anti-Tanks to also do.

Obsolete these look sensational. They change the feel of the game completely.

Sounds weird to say it but very exciting stuff!

(Only a wargamer could say that hey [;)] )

There are cancellation dates, but only if you buy units in the game. For the editor you can place any unit that was available before and at that date.
This was done because sometimes armies used old stuff that was not in production for quite some time when times were rough.
