ToW going East!

From the front lines in France and Russia to the deserts of North Africa and the airfields and convoys of Britain, the campaigns of World War II are yours to command in WW2: Time of Wrath! This turn-based grand strategy title, the highly improved and expanded sequel to WW2: Road to Victory, puts the player in charge of the political, economic and military decisions of one or more Axis or Allied nations, including minor nations.

If ToW got a good naval system, a slightly more developed political system and maybe a more dynamic interaction between resources, production and economy, it would be so perfect that - like a chessboard and it's pieces - it would never really need changing. When it comes to the second and third wish, they would be desirable, but not vital. The first is a must and I'm thrilled to learn what you have come up with for Pacific.

I don't see how fixing the naval system in the next game can possibly make me feel better about the broken naval system in this game.

The hope is that if it gets better in the Pacific game, the changes will eventually be imposed in the European theatre as well.

That is a nice hope, but again, it doesn't address the concerns with the naval system in this game really at all. Kind of talking about a third game almost, since the naval system in the new game will, presumably do much more than fix this game, but expand it (naval system that is) considerably.

Care to elaborate on the new GUI?

Why, we'll have to wait and see. I'm just happy that there's fresh development going on with the ToW system at all, even if it is beyond Europe at the moment. Suppose they said "We're done with this now" and just put the lid on. Many developers would choose to do that.

Didn't I say the 1.7 patch for ToW will be released before SoP? Also I wrote on Twitter that changelog for it already was figured out. Notices that still we are a moment before official release of 1.6 :D

We have to wait for more details on the matter. ATM I can say: in general, not mentioning colors and overall impression, there will be no more "Fleet" button in GUI :]

Sweetness. But please avoid the simplicity of the Strategic Command 2 naval design. We don't want just a bunch of individual ship counters to move around the ocean - we want task forces, escorts missions, inherent air cap and air combat with CVs, air strikes from CVs, etc and etc., i.e. the richness of operations that characterized the Pacific War.

Obviously you have never played SC Pacific theater or you would know that the exact same features you just listed are "in the game".

And again, obviously, if you would allow your imagination to dwell into a more abstract level you would see that SC naval units are not single vessels. Point in fact being that a SC battleship icon can possess upgrades of naval warfare and ASW, meaning their destroyer and light anti-air cruiser escorts have enhanced defensive values and they now have gun laying radar to direct their bombardments.

I know the isometric look and tiles are akin to that boxie vision of the 1970 Roadrunner, nevermind that underneath the hood is a 383 hemi.

Please include the counters on the map- Seeing your fleets on the map give you a better picture on planning your strategy- not just looking at boxes/ sea zones.

My needs, wants and desires for naval stimulation.

I want to feel what its like to piss in the wind, commanding a convoy.
What it smells like after a cruise in a submarine.
Give me a taste of Rum, Sodomy and the Lash .

Oh! and don't forget the sharks with fricken lasers. (ya its not WW2, but its cool and stuff).

Thank you, that is very happiness making.

I know I am asking for more, but with a 'little' more effort TOW can be really, really good, as opposed to just really good.  There are just a few things needing to be done to fill out a great treatment of the subject.

SoP will be very interesting.  And people need to keep track of the level of abstraction in TOW.  This is not a level where you track the flight of every plane, etc.  If you want that, get War in the Pacific and take a vacation from life as you know if for a few months.  The TOW/SoP level is something normal people can have a chance at completing.  I just keep hoping for the completing of the concept so the player has as many of the strategic options as the RL decision makers had as possible.  If the ideas from the Norway thread were implemented, the Scandinavian theater would suddenly assume something like its RL importance; as opposed to being a dead space in the map.  (I exaggerate a bit)

No, only played the original SC2. I thought the naval game there was toy-like. Could never buy another in the SC series because of the horrific squares/diamonds.
