Wow, usually you just get a single no for multiple questions. [8D] When T answers in the afirmative he'll answer positvely in triplicate![:D]

Outstanding book. Very thorough and engaging. Haven't read "Hitler's U-Boats War", but am considering it.

Probably still the definitive account of the sub war vs. Japan. Choke full of data too. Good recommendation. Blair came off much less biased in this book vs. his later series covering the Uboats but the approach was similar in regards to covering the patrols. It can make it a little dry as a result so best taken in small doses. The summaries alone, particularily the ones at the end of each year, make the book worth purchasing.

The book is excellent as many have noted. I have the Hitler's U Boat War which I agree with Nik are a harder read because of an unfortunately heavy-handed approach to trying explain the weaknesses in the German submarine strategy.

The only down side I found to reading Silent Victory is the need it instills to track the performance of each skipper and each boat by patrol while trying to play WiTP AE. For me, it openned a whole new dimension to the real campaign and the game alike.

Read my father's hard-cover original edition in the 1970s, now have my own trade paperback copy. The definitive history. It will make you want to go to Subase Pearl and climb onto the bridge of USS Parche where Red Ramage won the Medal of Honor. Those men truly won the War in the Pacific.
