I don't know about battleships since I haven't tried that yet, but I've done a few successful boardings.

My first boardings were disasters, but I've discovered that I do much better if I'm using marines and driods (you have to capture them in a boarding action) with an officer or two. So if I'm going to do a lot of boarding, I'll load up on marines... 50% of my crew. Seems the crewmen always seem to get slaughtered, so I'll only use them in the final assault if needed. I use the Commando Assault (I think its called), to attack only with marines and droids. Its worked out pretty well.

Yep not much problem on the earlier ship but battleship carry a lot of marines / droids as they have much bigger capacity

Since we cannot buy Battleship , so we are clear disadvantages in terms of manpower....guess we need to cut down the crewman ( 26 needed for cruiser class ) and fill up marines / droids..and maintain 10 officer ( 1 officer give 5% bonus to 50% been the max )

Surely the cruiser will crawl then due to lack of crewmen ...

Yeah sounds like taking a battleship calls for cutting down the crewmen as much as possible and loading up on officers, marines and a lot of droids. Just a thought but you might board the battleship (or other ships) and in the first assault go for just capturing droids in the ship's first section then retreating... do that a few times to build up as many droids as you can in small hit and run "raids" before going in for the real assault.

And yes the cruiser crawls from place to place if you have fewer than the required number of crewmen.

Well, it took me a while to capture a battleship, but a couple of things I figured out:

1. Go for a Marauder first. They have fewer crew/marines than a Stonewall, which have fewer than a Gettysburg class.

2. Try to have 10-20 droids (not necessary, but it makes it easier)

3. Get the boarding shuttle upgrade- this increases your maximum crew load and guarantees that you will have the opportunity to board in any combat.

4. Find a battleship over a friendly planet. Go down to the planet, go to the bar, and get rid of all but about 5 crew. Load up on marines (? if there is need for officers). The key here is that as long as you are not flying to another planet, there does not seem to be any penalty for having less than the minimum crew (in combat for example).

5. Attack the selected battleship

It took me a couple of times but with a little luck, you can capture the ship. Once you make the jump to battleship, work your way up to a Stonewall and eventually a Gettysburg.

I found that taking a Pirate maurader was the eaziest they seem to have less crew. I also use the boarding shuttles upgrase. Also I use no crew just use officers and marines and droids. Officers perform as crew to move the ship the and give a combat bonus in boarding actions up to 50% at 5% per officer. Its more expensive true but works.
