It's a shame...

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles.

What the hell is Def Jam?

Woah he did 1830 Railroads and Robber barons as well? That's another great game I never looked to see who designed it.

What we need is to marry this game with Gratitious Space battles, and we'd be in some heaven where there be wine and music.

Janster,

I agree, and I don't own GSB, but I did play Cosmic Balance and loved building ships and then testing them.

I'm waiting for LarryP to take the plunge, before I dive in. I can feel him wavering.[:'(]

That's good telepathy... I took the plunge last night. I got tired of wondering, and I knew eventually I would get it anyways so I got the task over with.

So far, I'm not sure what to say. I've played it for about an hour and a half. [&:] There are definitely some things I don't like about the game. I wish there were more options for the custom game setup for one.

Not sure if you played Sins of a Solar Empire but what options can you select in a custom game such as galaxy size/shape, random events, etc..?

You propably know this allready but stardock is doing an unofficial remake of master of magic. Its called elemental: war of magic and you can allready buy yourself into the beta (I allready did so several months ago). The game should be released in coming months.

Well LarryP, that's interesting pardner, now I'm not sure what I should do. You are one of the stalwarts here like JD, that I usually base my buy recommendations. JD doesn't like 4x space games, so I was waiting to see what you thought. If memory serves you also liked CEAW, which I loved also, so I figure we have similar tastes, so keep me posted. [&:]

Maybe that was Gary C. that liked CEAW, I'm gittin old...

Still on the fence with this one. Unlike JD, I am a fan of space 4X games but with the month's gaming budget already blown I can't decide between this, King Arthur or Solium Infernum.

Yes, the units looked like little ants crawling across the screen. But those games were actually enjoyable in their time.

I agree and its Brad Wardell [;)] Oh yeah, Norm Koger thats a name of the times. He is actually still around doing games... try stormeaglestudios.com for his latest games.

It's funny because Sid is the main one that sticks out in my mind of great game designers (probably because he puts his name on the cover of the game? yah think?). Brad with Stardock is becoming popular with me but I couldn't tell you his last name for the life of me. All that comes to mind is Quaid. lol There's also some of the older ones that are no longer around like Dave Landrey of the SSI era. Norm Koger? I think that's how you spell his last name. I know Joel Billings is around here somewhere and of course Gary Grigsby of Gary Grigsby wargame fame. A game I totally enjoy Master of Magic I couldn't tell you a single soul of who designed that one. I've never been really good with names or caring about them. Same with music. I can tell you songs I like but couldn't tell you the author for the majority of them. I think the guy who did the origional pc RTS game was David Hille and that's really drawing back in my memory as that game came out around 84 I believe. Lol check out the graphics for this game http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/c64/image/955607.html It's really hard finding information on it now too.

Not sure if you are asking about custom options in Sins or Armada? I have Sins Of A Solar Empire and the expansion to it. I have a ton of space games, too many. I'm still looking for a good one...

Well, I sent you a PM about Armada. I said things in that PM that I did not want to have to defend here in the public arena. [;)]

About CEAW, not me. I like it OK but nothing more than a liking. Barely. [8|]

OK. Custom game setup in Armada has these choices:

Number of players: Choose up to 12. Each race has different traits, perks, and flaws that are listed.
Number of turns: You can turn this up to 1,000,000! One million that is. [8D]
Level: Easy, normal, hard, expert.
Hotseat
Map: Random, tutorial, 12 tribes scenario.
Star density: Very sparse, sparse, normal, dense, very dense.
Size: 8 choices that range from 40x40 to 500x500.
Map type: Uniform, dense center, very dense center.

Those are all of the choices for a custom game.

Are there habitable planets within the stars or are the stars the planets and only one per star?

The stars are where you colonize. They can have orbiting items that contribute or take away from your mining and population. You cannot travel past the one star you colonize though. If you zoom into the picture of your star, they are different in what they have orbiting around them.
