Should I get AE?

Post by Warspite3 »

I will most likely be picking up AE for one of my holiday games. I am just wondering if its worth it since I already have the original WitP?

No question about it.

And if you are married, go ahead and make an appointment with a divorce attorney. Or at least plan to buy her stuff [:)]

That's why we say the game is really quite cheap. It's that other stuff that makes it look that way.

It's a much better game that WitP. I highly recommend it if you like this type of game. The map is more detailed, the combat has been significantly improved. The AI is better and.... the developers continue to improve the game all the time. WitP's time has passed. AE still lives on and on and on.

The whole Pacific War in one package. To put it simply there is nothing else out there that even comes close. Should be considered a definite purchase.

The only thing is one of time, are you ready? well.. this is not something to measure in terms of cost, You literally get thousands of hours of time spent ... Think about one day turns for several years, played in a team or solo, against the ai or against pbem oponents, try running the industry of Japan and here military? And with the Editor, LOTS of new scenarios of smaller time frame are sure to emerge. It is not a beer and pretzel game, it can be daunting BUT these forums provide a great deal of help, the game isfun.. IF you like turn based wego games.
What there is not? The ability without editing of changing the war decisions, Lots of locked into history decisions. Tor example US Europe first commitment leaves you scrambling in the first year of the war to stop what seems an unstoppable expanding JApanese offensive. The Japanese must somehow knock out the Brits, or the Chinese or the OZ, in the early years or face the combined wrath of all these forces, and a numerical and technilogicaly superior US forces that by late 43 can choose wehre to fight.

This game is not to be taken lightly. It is incredibly complex and deep, not for the timid or the neophyte. It's 'grognard' level of difficulty for a reason-it's not for your beer and pretzels set, but rather for those that consider this a calling of sorts.

If you've played UV or WiTP, you've had a fair conceptual introduction to what awaits you, but it is on a different scale of complexity than either of those. Again, not to be underestimated.

All that being said, there's no game that I've ever played that has so captured my imagination, my waking minutes, my devotion.

If you're ready for it, this game is incredible. If you're not, you either won't appreciate this game for what it is or will not be able to maximize the experience.

ermm, just one thing.....imho, the game has its problems and they are currently unsolved. See tech support forum plz. I dont want to make the game bad but there are still some issues. the last problem was supplies and resources stacked over 999.999 were gone...(happed to me three times) and after a hot fix which solved the issue (along with others),I dont see a AM air phase anymore. maybe you want to wait a bit....just my impression. I stopped playing my game now after loosing 200k supplies and 100k resources and no am air phase now....and wait&see what comes next.

Important : as I do not have any numbers, I dont know how often my described problems occur. maybe i just have really bad luck, and all others don't !

Yes, it has its problems. To me they are relatively minor (PBEM I don't have the AM problem) and I am convinced they will be fixed soon.

The scale of the game is so large I can't see how someone can ever add content without some bug poking its head around the corner.

If you would ask me (after you read the introduction to the game): Should I buy it? I would answer - yes... It is well spent money and if you want to invest energy into the game (use programs like tracker, excel (yes, a must if you play Japan) and a calculator) you will be rewarded.......

This is the first game were I enjoyed grabbing a pencil and paper and started working on a "management" plan for my little pixel empire.... And since I play PBEM it got worse. I named and tagged all my convoys... [:D]... loosing ships hurts....It's hard to explain it to the misses too.... Honey, this is my hobby... Really it is!

Cannonfodder : I agree with what you said.

But do not forget : the poster owns witp - witp is a game where you need paper and pens as well. way before AE was released. [:)]

They will not allow a save game editor.
So if your 6 months into actual game playing and find something screwy, well your just screwed.[:@]

i played WitP for 5 years and finally hung it up. AE has started the addiction all over again. If you're willing to invest the time, then no question - go for it. Yes, there are still some issues, but knowing Matrix quality of support they will be resolved in time.
