Looks fantastic! What program did you use to make the stadium? Was it Blender or Gamespace? How did you teach your self? I been wanting to make true current NCAA stadiums for my league.

Thanks. I'm afraid I haven't graduated to actual stadium building. About all I've learned how to do is manipulate the textures and stadiumdata files to add or subtract a few simple things from existing stadiums, and create some end zone art. Gary Sorrell and Localh are the ones who really pioneered the stadium building, I think, though being new to Max FB myself I don't really know for sure. I think they use Gamespace Light to create the 3D structures, though.

Some nice multi-use stadium designs are out there. When I started looking at some of them I realized that with a bit of tweaking here and there I could get them looking more or less like the old vintage ballparks that the NFL teams played in back in my favorite era of the game. You can radically change the looks of these stadiums by changing the textures. Not just color, but texture as well--i.e., a wall can be made into a chain-link fence or brick or wood, or whatever. You can change the skyline. You can use the hot pink color in the texture files to make certain things "invisible." Combined together, these tricks can work wonders on changing one stadium into another.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but if you find out how to design them from scratch, please write a tutorial!

Argyle,

You have some great work! On your Tiger Stadium mod, were you able to put a baseball diamond on the field? How did you do it? And please let me know where I can download these stadiums? Thanks

Hi. This was a modification of Gary Sorrell's Old Coach Stadium. As I explained above, I edited the BMP files to try to match the stadium colors, and to give the appearance of adding some walls and "objects". As a matter of fact, the "baseline"/"outfield" deck is actually just a BMP file showing a section of the stadium--i.e., a "wall" painted to look like stadium seats.

The playing surface has an overlay, or "mesh", which adds the baseball diamond and the end zone design. Gary Sorrell made a "Faux Field" mesh which I started with, but soon discovered wouldn't work for the fields I wanted to create. I had to completely re-do the yardlines, goal lines, sidelines and hash marks and numbers because the mesh lines of the Faux Field mesh were far too thick when matched to the default field (bear in mind, most of the "faux field" was transparent in this particular overlay because I only wanted to lay the baseball diamond down over the default mud field (actually, I edited that a bit too, making it slightly redder). It's tricky to get everything to look right, and requires a lot of tweaking of colors, shades, tints, and even positions.

The baseball diamond was tedious but not overly difficult. The main problem was finding a suitable graphic to work with, scaling it to the right size, and applying a "dirt" texture that would look good in the game. There was a "beta" ballpark mesh awhile ago but unfortunately it was designed to cover the entire field rather than just putting a diamond on the existing field, the colors weren't good, the numbering was misplaced, and the textures were super blurry. Plus, the dirt texture wasn't convincing. So when I found a good diamond graphic and texture, I went to work. Using layers is a necessity, so you can apply the diamond "under" the hash marks and yard lines. You can also add the distinctive end zone markings that were common at the time. That's the fun part of this game--making it look exactly like you want it to. I'm going to try one with the diamond at one end of the field rather than in one corner, a la Baltimore Memorial Stadium.

I also used a different "skyline", to create the illusion of an "old-time", inner city ballpark. That came courtesy of Old Coach. I did use his scoreboards and tweaked some of them accordingly. These are all just tricks to make Gary's stadium look entirely different.

I haven't uploaded them anywhere because only parts of them are my original work. I haven't decided yet, but I might eventually upload "patches" for the stadiums containing only the files I updated, but I still want to add stuff to them first.

Thanks Argyle. I plan to do some editing on the stadiums. When you plan to upload your baseball diamond field, please let me know. Everything else I think I can figure out.

Balboa Stadium. Think this one's about done. Details are correct per Tel Ra production of 1965 AFL Championship Game. While the Chargers' field details changed over the years, the '65 season featured the end zone markings depicted here, with the "goalpost 'H'" in the word "Chargers". Excellent shots of the "arched" end of the stadium depicted numerous trees at that end of the stadium, Track around the field was indeed grey and not the reddish color of most tracks in international track/field events.

This one turned out great!
